Int Football - Brazil put six past Portugal

Eurosport - Thu, 20 Nov 11:31:00 2008

Brazil gave beleaguered coach Dunga some respite by thumping Portugal 6-2 in a friendly, helped by a hat-trick from striker Luis Fabiano.

FOOTBALL 2008 Luis Fabiano celebrates goal in 6-2 win over Portugal - 0

The five-times world champions had been held to 0-0 draws in their last three home games, against Argentina, Bolivia and Colombia, and had not scored in front of their own fans since last November.

Dunga was jeered by the crowd and seemed to be in for a long night when Danny opened the scoring for the visitors by turning in Bruno Alves's cross after four minutes.

But Luis Fabiano levelled four minutes later following a break down the left by Robinho and put Brazil ahead in the 25th minute with a shot on the turn from Kaka's pass.

The second half produced four goals in a 10-minute spell. Maicon scored with an angled shot for Brazil in the 55th minute and Luis Fabiano completed his hat-trick with an opportunist goal two minutes later.

Simao Sabrosa pulled one back for the visitors, only for Elano to rifle home Brazil's fifth from another chance created by Kaka.

Adriano headed Brazil's sixth in stoppage-time as Brazil completed their first win over Portugal since 1989.

  5. Dunga finally allowed his team to play 'Brazilian' football. He used just one defensive midfielder, Gilberto, and used the attacking trio of Kaka, Elano and Anderson. This is against his previous method of using defensive midfielders Gilberto, Josue and Mineiro together which made for defensive football. The result showed the difference.

    hope Dunga learns his lesson!

    Brazil = Beautiful football.

  7. Brazil is up thumbs up for them this clearly show Cristiano not worthy to be the best player.Messi deserves it,his kind of football is not comparable to the diving cristiano.I think Kaka is far much better than cristiano.

  8. To be honest I strongly believe that Portugal in this match did not play well and their dismal international form seems to be getting worse. Having said that I sincerely believe Brasil wanted to win it so much more than the Portugese, football fans in Brasil were becoming very angry about the game their team had been playing for the past few months especially the home games. Not scoring a goal since last November is crazy when you think about the caliber of players they have and the players knew that even though this was a friendly they had to win convincingly. I only hope that they carry this form into their WC qualifiers. It would be such a shame not to see Brasil in the 2010 WC.

  10. Another impressive outing by Cristiano Ronaldo !! What a joke !! Once again the Diving One proved that he only enjoys playing against RUBBISH domestic opposition and becomes totally IRRELEVANT in big matches and in internationals. So he and his idiot fans should just STFU !! IMO, Messi is the best player in the world . End of story !!
