Hearts midfielder Laryea Kingston has claimed his family would have been at risk had he not joined up with the Ghana squad despite his injury.
Hearts boss Csaba Laszlo accused Kingston of being "unprofessional" for travelling home instead of receiving treatment in Edinburgh.
Kingston has not played since the Edinburgh derby draw on October 19 because of a thigh problem, and does not expect to return for another fortnight.
But he claims he reported for duty ahead of Ghana's friendly against Tunisia to avoid any suspicion over his injury.
"Some people in Ghana think when we foreign-based players say we are injured it might not be true, so I wanted to prove it to them," Kingston said.
"Some fans of the national team who are also very passionate could physically attack me or my family over this - that's why I'm here to prove to everyone I am injured."
The 28-year-old now hopes to ease relations with former Uganda manager Laszlo.
"As he has coached in Africa, I hope he will sympathise with me," Kingston added.

This is a blatant lie.I am a Ghanaian and i dont see why this guy in other to save his skin will come up with such a horrible lie.who in ghana will attach his family.he is scared of not being selected in the national side .my advice to him is that he always makeit sound like the county is made up of made men.the are alot of very good midfielder who are play his position and personlly the country will not miss his absence. He was not there during the world cup.Did the team miss his absende.try and show the country some respect and stop lying to disgrace the county.thanks
