Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel again finished top in Formula One testing in the final day at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya.
Toro Rosso's Sebastien Bourdais and Sebastien Buemi completed the top three in what was an excellent day for the Red Bull brand and drivers called 'Seb'.
Vettel picked up from where he had left off on day two, shaving almost half a second off his best time aboard the RB4 to lead the way and send out a warning signal that in 2009 he fully intends to add to his Italian Grand Prix success achieved with STR.
"It was good to be back in a race car again, for the first time since Brazil," the 21-year-old stated. "Running the 2009 slick tyres was very interesting, and very different to what Formula One has been used to for the past few years.
"It was also a useful couple of days for me from the point-of-view of getting to know the engineers and the rest of the team. It is important to develop a common understanding between us - and winter testing is the ideal opportunity to do just that."
Fourth on the final timing screens was McLaren-Mercedes test driver Gary Paffett.
Fifth-fastest was Honda's Jenson Button, the Englishman less than three tenths of a second ahead of the impressive Bruno Senna in the second RA108, with the pair - possible team-mates in F1 next year - sandwiching the evenly-matched BMW-Sauber duo of tester Klien and regular race driver Nick Heidfeld. Senna lapped almost three seconds quicker than he had done on the opening day, and seven tenths up on the best effort set by fellow GP2 graduate Lucas di Grassi - his principal rival for a seat at the Brackley-based outfit in 2009 - on day two.
"It's nice to be back in a car that I enjoy driving," enthused Button, who continued his set-up programme, running on slick rubber and working through a series of aerodynamic and suspension evaluations on the modified RA108.
"Taking a lot of the down-force off and running on slick tyres suits my driving style a lot more than grooved tyres.
"I've had a fun couple of days and it's been very useful, as we have tested many things which should help us with the new car. It's been a positive start to 2009 already, and I'm very pleased. I've just got to keep pushing the team hard now to get the improvements that we are hoping to achieve for next year."

The fact is nobody knows until they are in a top team & expected to win week in week out, with that added pressure & hurry ups over the team radio, lets see how they perform then. I really do hope that Vettal does turn out to be great because not only will it give us some great racing but it will relieve some of the media spotlight on Lewis & that can only be a good thing.
I think their paranoia stems from the fact that they know Lewis is going to be around for a long time & with it they realise that it wont be a forgone conclusion each year that the number 1 will be on a Ferrari.
I think Vettal has got what it takes & given the package could well be challenging for honours,
clispyduck, Mark W & Ian B, I feel we are flogging a dead horse my friends, they will not listen to any reasoned argument all they are interested in is whats best for Ferrari & any driver they might be interested in & if you look over their post's that certainly isn't the World Champion.
Ian. You're lucky Mourons locked up this afternoon.
Totally agree with you Mr Duck!
ashad: if Ferrari had the better car does that make Hamilton a better driver than the Ferrari ones? Interested to see your response to that.
I agree in some respect as the Ferrari was definately the faster car. Kimi's fastest lap record this year proves that beyond a doubt. I know he's only young to F1 but you have to agree that taking this into account (and judging by Heiki's performances) Hamilton got the very best out of the McLaren and deserved the title.
arshad_iceman2 - no that's fine, I never said you did, was just curious. One thing though I don't understand and please don't take this as an argument, I'm just trying to see where you're coming from. You seem to think that Vettel is better than Hamilton. Would I be correct in saying that? And if so, what are you basing this on?
arshad: There's no debating with you Ferrari fans. You ONLY see the Ferrari side of things. What's your take on all the FIA decisions that went Ferrari's way this year? Was Massa right to get extra points? ONLY a Ferrari fan could possible justify these.
Never said Hamilton was a bad driver
arshad_iceman2 - so if Ferrari had the better car, then that makes Lewis a very talented driver? Would you not agree with that?
clispyduck
Based on your demolition of tt's arguments about achievements not being it all, then Sir Stirling Moss was no good as he never was Formula 1 champ. I never saw him race but Moss is definitely one of the best of all time, eclipsed and title-less bcoz Fangio was supreme in that era
clispyduck
if you stopped being so impulsive and read the other posts you might notice that sdcharger717 was the one who referred to Dennis having a junior team and I just repeated it. As for PdlR testing the Force India, I have read and heard enough bullsh1t over Ferrari not winning the title in 2007 on merit over the spy scandal. Just to avoid all the stupid repercussions of the scandal, I don't like to see a McLaren driver in a Ferrari-engined car. And Ferrari don't need McLaren technology just coz of the rain. Over the season Ferrari beat McLaren as the better constructor
tt: Are you trying to sound intelligent in here by stating the obvious? basically for us that don't want to type like a scientist what you are saying is more talented people have failed to win because of a number of factors........hello?
As for your "not consider any variables other than prior achievements" statement. The only TANGIBLE "variables" that we can bring into an argument are prior achievements. All your "variables" are just the poncey rantings of another sore loser.
Your statement "take the car out of the equation and young lewis ain't lookin' all THAT hot" based on what "variables" this time? He is a driver that has won EVERY championship title that he has EVER raced in. That, plus the pressure that he must have been under in only his 2nd season and the way he maintained his dignity throughout all the IA stuff makes him pretty hot to intelligent, rational people I feel.
arshad_iceman2: give us a break will you? Your hatred towards McLaren is so glaringly obvious that I'm embarrassed for you. "Daddy Ron having a junior team"...nonsense! As for having Ferrari technology? Does he want that hassle that the FIA would pile on him? no! and more to the point, does he actually need it? If it wasn't for Heiki's poor show and the FIA's continued help you would have lost the constructors too. You are so arrogant that you genuinely believe that Ferrari have all the key technology in F1 and McLaren don't. I think you will find that Ferrari would benefit more than McLaren now. Look at both their cars performance in rain.....point made I feel.
tt, Firstly the McLaren in '07 was proved to have no Ferrari influences on it at all, If you had bothered to follow the saga at all you would have known that it was about pitstop strategy, fuel types, what sort of gasses where being used in the tyres & tyre pressures etc.
What other variables are we supposed to use given that the pair of them have only been in F1 for two years.
Fast times, but testing proves very little in racing. The new season may hold more competative racing, closer and tighter, please do away with all the electronics and reduce the size of the airboxes so there is less downforce, maybe then we can see who really is a great driver?
What worries me more than Daddy Ron having a junior team is a McLaren driver testing a car with Ferrari technology
Did anyone notice that (Mclaren friday driver)Pedro de la Rosa is testing the Force India? Looks like Ron Dennis may have his junior team.
MP4-23, the Ferrari was maybe better than the McLaren this year but in 2007 McLaren was definitely better than the Ferrari as their drivers were one and two in the championship before the last round. So Raikkonen won his title with as much an inferior car as Hamilton did this year
I have to agree with tt saying that achievement is no measure of talent. To base my point on fact, look no further than the great British hero the great Sir Stirling Moss
