Ivory Coast and Ghana will meet at the African Nations Cup in Angola with Chelsea striker Didier Drogba facing his club mate midfielder Michael Essien.
The in-form African teams were pooled together in Group B when the draw for the Jan. 10-31 tournament was made on Friday.
Both sides are favourites to advance from the group stage but will face tough competition from Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor's Togo side and Burkina Faso.
Hosts Angola will open the tournament against Mali and will also face Malawi and Algeria in Group A.
"None of the games are going to be easy," said Angola coach Manuel Jose. "But our group is a balanced one and that has given us hope of qualifying to the final stage of the tournament."
Holders Egypt face Nigeria, Mozambique and Benin in Group C while Cameroon, Gabon , Zambia and Tunisia are in Group D.
The finals are made up of 16 teams with the top two in each group reaching the quarter-finals.
