World Tour Finals - Your View: Fed to deliver in London

Eurosport - Wed, 18 Nov 11:06:00 2009

Roger Federer might be worried about his own patchy tennis of late - but Eurosport-Yahoo! readers have no such worries about the great man.

TENNIS 2009 Roger Federer - 0

Some 41 per cent of you predicted that the 15-times Grand Slam winner will bounce back from his shock defeats in Paris and Basel to win the ATP World Tour Finals in London next week.

The 28-year-old was a clear eight per cent clear of our poll's second-placed player, Novak Djokovic, despite the Serbian's outstanding form which has seen him win three of his last four tournaments, picking up wins over Federer and Rafael Nadal along the way.

Nadal is third in the poll, picking up 18 per cent of the vote. That is an extraordinary display of faith in a player who simply has not performed since his comeback. Don't believe us? Then believe this: Nadal has only made one ATP final since the Madrid Masters back in May, a month ago in Shanghai... and that only came because he had two successive opponents withdraw injured to get him through first the quarter-final then semi-final.

As for world number four Andy Murray? A paltry three per cent of you think that the Scot will lift a seventh title of the year despite the advantage of playing in front of a British crowd. And it's hard to disagree: sure, he won a second-tier event in Valencia, but the only player of note he beat along the way was Fernando Verdasco, and he followed it up with a very shaky performance in Paris.

We asked: Who will win the ATP World Tour Finals?

Poll results (as of 10am on Thursday November 19)

Roger Federer - 41% - 2535 votes

Novak Djokovic - 33% - 2027 votes

Rafael Nadal - 18% - 1088 votes

Andy Murray - 3% - 214 votes

Juan Martin del Potro - 2% - 140 votes

Andy Roddick - 1% - 88 votes

Nikolay Davydenko - 1% - 53 votes

Fernando Verdasco - 1% - 37 votes

Best of your comments:

sjhill96: "Fed simply ain't on form. He's up most nights worrying about his kids and therefore tired more easily on court. Nadal-Djoko final again."

vladimirb: "For me, everyone, but not Federer to win. Sorry Fed Fans, he's got enough, let the others win something."

Bblee: "Clear favourite is Novak, he is in his best form now. Don't underestimate Roger... but my last bet has to be Soderling! The unexpected winner - he has no pressure at all."

destong09: "Nadal and Djokovic are both hungry for this title and I think they have the best chance... Murray is not up to the challenge."

LooneR: " I simply cannot understand how some people continue to claim Nadal can win."

Csaba: "There is this big question: 'Can Andy Murray win a Grand Slam?', and it is treated like one of the world's big mysteries like the Higgs boson, the meaning of life or the ultimate fate of the universe. A truly great player would never need such articles."

  1. fagucodonosor I said if you had any pride or dignity you would stop posting. That was a rhetorical question as obvioulsy you don't so that was why I asked who you thought the GOAT was. God you really are stupid arn't you? Such a poor grasp of how the English language works. LOL what a r.e.t.a.r.d. Still won't answer the question will you? What a loser!

Oh and he thinks we're ganging up on him? Ha ha ha how weak is that! Why don't you go and cry to Mummy Fagcodosor. Your nothing on this site. Everyone laughs at you! You know nothing about Tennis and your just a sad loner with no life. Is that why you hate Federer? because you sent him a Gay love letter and he didn't reply back? Oh of course it all makes sense now!

By the way Fagucodonosor since you could not answer any of Checkerboards points why don't you say who you think is the Goat then??"

He tells me to stop posting, and then begs me for an answer. Make up your mind, tard.

  4. LOL nicely done Checkerboard!! the word ownage dosen't do justice to how much you pawned this little b.i.t.ch! Of course Nabucodonosor like most trolls knows little to nothing about the subject he constantly comments on. Your best not wasting your time as a brick wall will provide far more articulate and intelligent feedback then fagucodonosor here. Your too good for him as he has demonstrated in his responses. If he had any pride or dignity he would stop embarassing himself and stop posting.

By the way Fagucodonosor since you could not answer any of Checkerboards points why don't you say who you think is the Goat then??

And maybe you're a @#$% jerking off to Federer pics in between posting here. Everybody's got a psychiatry degree on the Internet, tard. Also, there are no "points" you made. Like I said, you just filled up some space between insults.

"Hey Nab you gone all red and steamy? I recommend a nice, cool, ice-bath, son!"

  7. Nabucodonosor I have done something rare here because I have actually OVERESTIMATED your Intelligence. It would not suprise me if you did actually believe Krajicek was as good as Sampras. Notice you couldn't counter any points I made? Oh and here is something for you to learn today. Consistency is the key to EVERYTHING in sport. You can't win the league in football if your not consistent can you? It's not a minor element that Federer has. Maybe your just some punk child playing on his mommys computer. That would explain alot. A child with no friends either given how often you comment on Eurosport Tennis storys.

To aeronick2000, your wrong Agassi was the first to Win Grand slams on all surfaces, Grass, Clay and Hard court. In Laver's day there was only two different surfaces. Also they did not have to play 7 best of 5 matchs to win a slam plus there was a hell of alot less players on tour in his day. Interesting point John McEnroe made at Wimbledon this year, he said that the 100th ranked player today would probabley be around the top 50 10-15 years ago. Says something for the strength in depth of Tennis today compared to eras gone by.

  10. Lol @ checkerwhore. It wouldn't be a Fedtard if it wouldn't go into hysterical fits every time the legitimacy of the "messiah" was questioned. Why can't you Fedtards just accept that you're stupid and others have better taste? I mean how hard can that be?

And btw, just to piss you off a little more, Kraijcek, at his best, was about as good at Sampras, only a lot less consistent. Wrap your little brain around that.

As for the best player in history, that's easy. The best player ever is Dominik Hrbaty. Common knowledge for the connoisseurs of this sport, really.

  11. Preach on checkerboard5000, perfectly said. Although, two things I disagree with. Even as big a fan of Federer I am, wouldn't go as far as saying that Federer is better than Rodney Laver. Its a unique acheivement winning all four slams in a year. It implies a supreme ability above all on all surfaces, it also takes focus and calm of an ice-cool character. You find those people once every half a century, and in men's tennis there are a whole lot of hungry dudes. I doubt we'll find a grand slammer in our lifetime in men's tennis. But if Fed does, that will take to the brink of retirement on 20 slams.
Put it this way, Federer is better than Nadal, Djokovic, Murray and Del P. But in order to do the grand slam, he'll have to beat every single one of them anytime he meets them in a slam plus a whole lot of potential banana skins like Verdasco, Tsonga, Haas, Soderling, Gonzalez. Thats the challenge ahead of him if he wants 'the mother of all acheivements'. Now tell me, even with a man of Federer's talents, How on earth is he going to that?
Second disagreement cross-eyed inbred with siblings as his biological parents?? Even for someone as stupid as Nabucodonosor, thats a bit too harsh!

Nabucodonosor I have to say i agree with you. Great player that Federer is i don't like him either because he is a bad loser, arrogant and pretend humble. He ruined the moment for Nadal when he won the AUST. OPEN by crying .

ANYWAY ANYBODY IN THE FIELD COULD WIN THIS IF THEY ARE ON SONG.

  13. Nabucodonosor, I usually ignore filth which is beneath me but your last comment needs to be dealt with as people need to see how your really just a cross eyed jealous inbred who is the product of a brother + sister relationship.

You say Federer is consistent? Er does it not take take supreme skill to be THAT consistent?? Form is temporary and class is permanent. 4 Grand slam finals this year? How many times has Federer done that now and how many people in HISTORY have ever done that? NOT the people you have mentioned.

You say there is not much difference netween him and Nadal, Murray, Djokovic etc. Well Krajicek has a 5-4 winning record over a PRIME Pete Sampras. When you saw them play Sampras didn't seem that much better but who had the 14 slams to Krajiceks 1? Thats right you loser of course Pete was better. Same that Hewitt had a 5-4 record over Pete including 2-1 on grass not to mention when he anihalated Sampras at the U.S open final. Again no sane person thinks Hewitt was a better player then Sampras (except maybe you)

You analysis of Federers game is laughible. Typical armchair idiot who knows little about the technical side of Tennis. You have no idea of the mechanics of the game of Tennis if you seriously believe what you wrote.

Tell me then who you think is the greatest and I will destroy that view with a few simple facts. By the way you do know Philipousis, Henman.Safin and Agassi all said Federer was alot tougher to play against then Sampras and that he was the better player? Also Sampras was rubbish on clay and basically blasted his opponents off the court with his serve and huge volley? Once it was slowed down on clay he was barely a top 20 player. Funny how Roger could play on ALL surfaces. Nabucodonosor you really are a fraud and if you dare talk about Laver being the best then I will humliate you on that front as well. Loser get a life

  15. Based on current form, I would say Nole. But form eventually ends (as Murray at US Open)
Roger's achievements speak for him so he should not be discarded. Some say 22 yr old Murray is yet to win a slam. So what? Look up Alex Corretja (incidentally one of Murray's coaches) in '98 and David Nalbandian in '05.
As for Nadal being only to one final since May? Same identical case for Nole last year !

  17. Sjhill96, a Djokovic-Nadal final, well i doubt very hard if thats possible, i mean he plays soderling first match and soderling is a indoor-hardcourt player, dont forget he stunned nadal on his FAVOURITE surface, so i think everything is in advantage for soderling, and if you look at his next opponent: davydenko, nadal has still a record against him on CLAY, and all those meetings davydenko has won are all on hardcourts, and this court seem to be very fast, and at least djokovic, in the last two meetings on hardcourt djokovic simply crushed him, so lots of work to do for nadal. Im saying this without the bad conditions of federer and the losses is because its almost impossible to be a djoko-nadal final, id rather say a delpo-djoko final or delpo soderling ...
