Trollope: Pirates sail on big stage

Thu 20 Dec, 05:00 PM

First-team coach Paul Trollope hopes recent experience of "big occasions" will stand Bristol Rovers in good stead for the trip to Leeds.Last season Rovers edged out rivals Bristol City in a two-legged semi-final in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy before losing to Doncaster in the final of the competition at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

And victory against Shrewsbury in the play-off final at Wembley saw the Pirates promoted to League One.

Trollope said: "We know that on the big occasions in the past we have performed and we will need to do that again if we are to come away with anything.

"When the fixtures come out, this is one of the ones you look forward to and we would love to go there and grind out a win.

"If it wasn't for the points deduction they had, they would be top of the table by some distance now so to go there and get a win would be a great achievement for us."
