Premier League - Calderon blasts Ferguson over rant

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has hit back at the "sad" comments made by Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson with regards to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ferguson, questioned over alleged comments made by a Real director that a deal with Ronaldo had been agreed, had said he would "not even sell a virus" to "that mob".

Calderon expressed his disappointment over the outburst and said his club are respectful and respected throughout the world.

"In the code of conduct of our club, there is no room for insults, for scorn, nor for a lack of respect for our rivals," he stated on the club's website.

"Perhaps for this reason, Real Madrid is respected in all corners of the world.

"It is sad that a professional with the career of Mister Ferguson can make a statement like that, in addition to other unfortunate statements made in recent months.

"Despite these, Real Madrid will never respond without respect to Manchester United, to any of its officials, nor of course to its supporters."

Calderon confirmed that there was "no agreement" between the two clubs on Ronaldo.

Prior to Ferguson's comments, Spanish newspaper El Mundo had reported that the two clubs had a gentleman's agreement to transfer Ronaldo to the Bernabeu at the end of the season.

It said the two teams agreed in principle to the deal at the end of a bitter tug-of-war for the Portugal star this year but pledged a vow of silence.

Fergie­ after the world cup was all over the press for a whole­ season claiming he was going to sign that half legged­ Owen from the germans even though they said all season­ he was not for sale. Same goes for him making sure the­ tall bulgarian was unsettled in spurs, Saha from Fulham­ and others.????? It is football and politics, they­ both go together. If you can't stand it been done­ to you then stop doing it to others. Seems like Man U­ and Alex are just scared of Real Madrid........

Calderon's act is a shame to the club.I'm a­ Real fan but I'm very disappointed with his­ unprofessional behaviour.He did such behaviour twice­ already,and I believe that's not how a club­ president should be.If he doesn't want to lose his­ position after the next presidential election,he better­ makes sure the club doesn't have even a single of­ trophyless season and keep quiet about transfers.If­ not,I'll be very happy to see Florentino Perez­ taking over from him as the next club's­ president,as long as he have learned from his past­ mistakes.
