Chairman Chris Dunphy believes Steve Eyre was given every chance to succeed as Rochdale boss despite sacking the former Manchester City youth team coach after only six months in the job.
A run of one win in 10 npower League One matches and the reality of Christmas in the relegation zone was enough to end the tenure of Eyre and assistant Frank Bunn after 27 games on Monday. In the wake of his dismissal Dunphy was quick to point out that unprecedented resources had been given to Keith Hill's successor at Spotland.
Dunphy told BBC Radio Manchester: "The way I look at it is how much support we have been able to give the management team. We currently have a squad of 28 players, which is the biggest Rochdale Football Club's ever had by a long way - I think Keith's squad was about 18 or 19."
He added: "We're also on the biggest budget we've ever done, which is not a fortune but it's big for the club. This season we eventually got dedicated training facilities, so he had them all together.
"I feel that I've done all that I can as chairman of Rochdale Football Club to support the management team and if we're not getting results then the only thing I can do is to change the management team."
