Clarets boss gives up on Riordan

Mon 21 Jan, 10:30 AM

Burnley boss Owen Coyle has ended his interest in Derek Riordan after the Clarets' bid for the Celtic striker was turned down. The 25-year-old has struggled to establish himself as a first-teamer at Parkhead and started on the bench for the visit of Kilmarnock at the weekend even though Aiden McGeady was suspended.

He has been heavily linked with a move to England in recent weeks, but Turf Moor looks unlikely to be his destination after Coyle failed in a reported £400,000 bid for the frontman.

He told the Daily Record: "We made a bid for Riordan, it was turned down and that's that."

Coyle is still looking to bolster his squad, but won't panic buy.

He added: "I'm looking a three or four different players at this moment in time. It's no secret we need one or two players to increase the squad but we will try to be selective and make sure it is the right player for this football club."
