Harford hopeful over Hatters duo

Mon 21 Jan, 03:45 PM

Luton manager Mick Harford is waiting on the fitness of Matthew Spring and David Bell ahead of the trip to fellow strugglers Bournemouth. The talented midfield pair - who continue to be linked with moves to the Championship - both picked up knocks in the 2-1 defeat at Leyton Orient on Saturday but Harford is confident that they will be fit enough to start.

Captain Chris Perry returned from the thigh injury which kept him out of the FA Cup replay defeat at Liverpool to last the full 90 minutes at Orient and will again be partnered at centre-half by Don Hutchison - who has been reborn as a central defender at the age of 36.

Goalkeeper Dean Brill is now back to full fitness after his own thigh problem while veteran Marlon Beresford returned to the bench at the weekend after an injection helped boost his recovery from a shoulder operation.

Striker Sam Parkin has had a relapse of his ankle problem and will miss out while Sol Davis is closing in on a return to the first-team picture for the first time this season. But midfielder Richard Langley (broken leg) and Paul Underwood remain long-term absentees and Paul Peschisolido has been ruled out for the season with his ankle injury.

The Cherries remain in danger of joining the Hatters in administration and with both sides languishing in the League One relegation zone three points is a must for Harford's side.
