Paul Collingwood's Perth Scorchers will contest Australia's T20 Big Bash League Final after beating Melbourne Stars by 11 runs at the WACA.

Collingwood struck a quick-fire 31 as Perth scored an imposing 174 for three from their 20 overs, thanks in no small part to South African opener Herschelle Gibbs' electrifying 71 from 46 deliveries.

Shane Warne, bowling for the Stars, returned relatively tidy figures of 4-0-29-0, while Englishman Luke Wright picked up Gibbs' wicket as the visitors toiled.

They began brightly in response, thanks in part to Wright's 33 from 25 when opening the innings, but ultimately fell short.

The Scorchers await the winners of the second semi-final between Hobart and the Sydney Sixers, which takes place on Sunday.
