Baggies end Stoke drought

Sat, 21 Jan 18:53:52 2012

West Brom ended their 30-year hoodoo at Stoke and brought the curtain down on their miserable run in the Barclays Premier League with a 2-1 victory.

After losing 13 games and drawing five of their previous 18 visits to this part of the Potteries, it required two mistakes from Stoke goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen to gift Albion the points.

Sorensen first allowed a low 30-yard shot from James Morrison past him, and after substitute Cameron Jerome seemingly salvaged a point in the 86th minute, Graham Dorrans then beat the Norwegian in injury time with a 25-yard free-kick.

Albion thoroughly deserved the win, though, as Morrison also twice hit the woodwork among a number of other opportunities for the visitors.

  2. Oh there is no argument off me that your style gets more positive results, its just that is it genuinely what you want to watch?. Remember at the Albion we had Gary Megson who was the master of grinding out results and basically DRAGGED us off the bottom of the championship and upto the Prem, however his style soon run its course, we tried Robson, whose sheer personality (and other teams inability!) saved us before we discovered Mowbray. His football was exciting and attacking, we reached Cup Semi-finals, Play-off finals went up and down but gradually built our club up (We haven't all got multi-millionaire owners!) Mowbray was poached and we just carried it on with Di Matteo, Hodgson has come in and shored us up a little and given us a little more "Premiership experience" but we still like end to end football. With Stoke, and this might be a steriotypical view, it just seems to be......boring.

No not bitter just a tadge frustrated that we never got going and our tactics and team selection gave you a good chance of getting a result. As you say we play to our strengths you play to yours it seems our style gets more results than yours so lets agree to disagree. I would say though that in those conditions yesterday your game was better suited to them than ours and for once you had the luck we didnt end of the day thats what got you the win.

    See you next season

  4. Fairplay - You just sound bitter mate

Like you said we don't beat you very often so let us enjoy it. As for the comment regarding your style of play and our belief that we are the messiahs of football, you play to your strengths, simple, I don't like watching it, I CERTAINLY would never spend money to watch it, but if you're happy and it works then who are we to say whats wrong and whats right? I just know that I would rather watch passing, attacking football rather than direct and set piece reliant football that it seems you are dependant on.

It's funny, I was watching Sam Allardyce talking about how his West Ham are not playing "The West Ham Way" and he said "The West Ham Way? What ways that? Losing football matches, cause thats all they have done for 3 years" So true Sam.

Anyway agree about the Dingles, although they seem to be doing a good enough job of it themselves!

  5. 2 wins in 29 attempts. Enjoy it because on that average you will go a long time before you beat us again? However you deserved it on the day we we were awful and that formation we started with played right into your hands. The above statistic though blows a hole in your "2-1" to the football team" if you were that good you would have registered more wins over the years??

See you next season and lets send the Dingles down!

  6. at last the other midfield players are helping mulumbu and the forwards

good to see dorans get off the mark as they say.

marc a. fortune appears to have been inspired by a blief that he can actually play and have an impact on the opposition

resting both shane and peter gives them time to come back from tyhe after effects of the niggles they have had lately.

changing the composition because the team had to does seem to have unsettled stoke.

might be worth a try in another game in the future.

only 7 or 8 wins from yet another season in the premiership.

i will be glad to get rid of the yoyo tag..... as i am sure the players will.

besides the benefit of another years premiership cash it is good to know that perhaps mr hodgson and the chairman can work with tightpurse strings.

useful to know that we unlike several bigger clubs coudl manage should the effects of the new rich leagues...eg russia china etc reduce the monies from tv.

ok now lets give Norwich a lesson in determination and courage they will not forget this saturday.
    well done the team.
