Coyle expects Cole to face Coventry

Thu 21 Feb, 04:30 PM

Burnley manager Owen Coyle is expecting on-loan Sunderland striker Andrew Cole to return to action against Coventry on Tuesday. The 36-year-old, who has scored four goals in two starts since joining on loan from the Black Cats, is nursing an Achilles injury.

Coyle is unwilling to risk him during this weekend's trip to Plymouth but is confident he will play at least some part in next week's home clash against the Sky Blues.

The Clarets boss said: "Andrew let me know before he came to the club that his Achilles had been niggling, so we tried to make sure he got the treatment required during the break.

"The advice was to leave it completely for seven to 10 days. What we don't want is to put him in the position where he misses four or five games.

"We would rather have Andrew for a very important sequence of games coming up and so if that means missing one, then so be it. I think he will miss out on Saturday but hopefully be available at some point for Tuesday against Coventry."
