Thu 21 Feb, 06:45 PM

Doncaster Rovers defender Sam Hird has not ruled out a permanent move to Grimsby Town in the future. The 20-year-old returned to Doncaster this week after spending three months on loan at Blundell Park, where he made 18 appearances.

Hird told the Grimsby Telegraph: "My initial contract with Rovers is up in the summer, but they have told me there is no problem about getting another year after it runs out.

"The decision for me then is whether to stay on and maybe end up being in and out of the team as a squad player.

"Or do I go out to somewhere like Grimsby and play regular first-team football? There's also the option of signing at Doncaster and then going out on loan again.

"I haven't thought too much about it yet, but I've spoken with Alan Buckley and said I'd keep in touch. He has told me he would be interested."
