Kilmarnock boss Jim Jefferies does not want Scottish Premier League strugglers Gretna to fall into administration.Gretna were unable to pay their players this week as seriously-ill owner Brooks Mileson is the only person who can authorise the payments.
Second-bottom Killie are nine points above Gretna and a 10-point penalty would seal the fate of a team who have won just three SPL games.
But Jefferies does not want to rely on another club's financial misfortunes to save Killie's SPL status.
Jefferies' men have taken one point from seven games but the manager has seen improvement in narrow defeats by high-flying Motherwell and Rangers.
And he is looking for his players to move up the table, starting with Sunday's visit of Aberdeen.
"I'm not concerning myself about anything at the moment other than Kilmarnock getting back to winning ways," he said.
"People make out that Gretna's problems will suit Kilmarnock, but there are a couple of clubs above us that are catchable.
"So it is more than just Kilmarnock that would benefit if anything happens.
"But there is no point looking at that. They have done great, Gretna, over the years.
"They have a hit a bit of a financial problem but that is their concern and I'm sure they have people to help get them out of it.
"It's not something we are hoping happens - we know there are enough games left for us to have it in our own hands.
"We shouldn't have any problem, we have just got to get back to winning ways.
"We have got a game we could win this week at home and then we play Gretna on Wednesday."
New signing Paul Dalglish is in contention to face the Dons after scoring in a reserve win over Gretna on Tuesday.
The 31-year-old has not played top-team football since being released by Houston Dynamo in November but Killie are looking for goalscorers following the sale of Colin Nish to Hibernian.
Jefferies said: "We are short, Gary Wales was injured last week and doesn't look like making it this week.
"So really it leaves us Paul Di Giacomo and David Fernandez, and Danny (Invincibile) is an option through the middle.
"Getting another recognised forward isn't easy outside the transfer window but Paul was available.
"He has been training, he is maybe a wee bit rusty, but he played for the reserves the other night and scored a goal, so I think he has got a good chance of being involved."
