Defending champions Friedrichshafen needed only one set to qualify for the second round of the Champions League play-offs.

The Germans, who beat Dynamo Moscow 3-0 on home soil, took the opening set 25-18 in the Russian capital to secure their place in the final six.

Dynamo took the next three sets 25-23 25-18 25-22 but it was incidental.

There was a similiar situation in Athens as Panathinaikos won the opening set to secure their passage through to the next round at the expense of Knack Randstad Roeselare.

The Belgians went on to win the second leg 21-25 25-20 18-25 25-22 15-10.

Dinamo Kazan won the second set against the Poles of Jastrzebski Wegiel to progress, the Russians losing 25-16 17-25 25-22 19-25 15-12 but like Panathinaikos going through 5-3 on aggregate.

Cannes, whose 3-2 victory over Paris on Tuesday completed a 6-3 aggregate success, are also in the next phase and are set to be joined by the Italians Sisley Treviso, who hold a 3-0 lead over Portol Drac Palma Mallorca entering the second leg.

Copra Piacenza edged out Italian rivals Lannutti Cuneo 24-26 18-25 25-23 26-24 15-13 in the first leg of their tie that also concludes on Thursday.
