Valenciennes president Francis Decourriere has demanded that the Ligue 1 loss to Metz is replayed after the racist abuse suffered by his captain Abdeslam Ouaddou from opposing fans.

Decourriere said he has made a "solemn demand" in letters to French president Nicolas Sarkozy, the president of the Olympic committee, the president of the French league and the president of the league of human rights.

"I want a big gesture," he said. "I want to replay the match against Metz in front of the children of Metz and Valenciennes in attendance to show that an important match at the highest level can take place in good conditions.

"And when it is over, we can accept the sporting outcome."

Decourriere said he is worried that if nothing is done, the same thing could occur again in future.

"What I fear is that if we are giving these people a clear conscience and tomorrow it could all happen again."

He urged the authorities to take "strong measures based on the English model" and impose "life bans from stadiums" for offenders.

Morocco defender Ouaddou remonstrated with a Metz spectator at half-time who had repeatedly insulted him. Ligue 1's disciplinary committee is due to meet on Thursday to study the incident and the referee's report.

Valenciennes are eighth in the table, while Metz are 12 points adrift at the bottom.
