Bayer Leverkusen made sure of their place in the last 16 of the UEFA Cup with a resounding 5-1 victory over Galatasaray.

FOOTBALL 2007-2008 UEFA Cup Leverkusen-Galatasaray Kießling Barbarez - 0

After playing out a goalless draw last week in Istanbul, Sergej Barbarez notched either side of a Stefan Kiessling effort to put the hosts three up by the midway point in the first half.

Karim Haggui made it 4-0 in the 55th minute and Bernd Schneider converted a penalty to make it five just after the hour mark.

Galatasaray's Ahmed Apimah Barusso scored a penalty of his own in the 87th minute to grab a consolation for the visitors.

Fiorentina 2-1 Rosenborg (Agg: 3-1)

Fiorentina set up a last 16 meeting with Everton after a comfortable aggregate victory over Rosenborg.

Fabio Liverani, who returned from a two-week injury lay-off last weekend, got the first goal of the game shortly before half-time and Daniele Cacia sealed the victory 10 minutes from time.

Yssouf Kone pulled one back for Rosenborg right at the end but it was a case of too little too late for the Norwegians, who lost 3-1 overall.

Hamburg 0-0 FC Zurich (Agg: 3-1)

Hamburg advanced to the last 16 after playing out a drab goalless draw at home to FC Zurich.

The German outfit were without injured captain and playmaker Rafael van der Vaart, but their progression never looked under threat as they dominated from start to finish.

The Swiss side had to score at least three times to have any hope of going through, having been outplayed in the first leg, but Huub Stevens' team were always in complete control of the tie.

Spartak Moscow 2-0 Marseille (Agg: 2-3)

Goals by Aleksandr Pavlenko and Roman Pavlyuchenko could not prevent Spartak Moscow slipping out of the UEFA Cup at the hands of Marseille at the last-32 stage.

Having lost 3-0 in the first leg in the south of France last week, Spartak needed to produce something special at a freezing Luzhniki Stadium in the return fixture to progress.

They came mighty close, Pavlenko volleying home just before half-time and Pavlyuchenko adding to the lead in the 85th minute, but l'OM hung on to squeeze through.

Basle 0-3 Sporting (Agg: 0-5)

Sporting Lisbon made sure of their progress to the last 16 with a comfortable victory against Basle in Switzerland.

Leading 2-0 from the first leg, the visitors took the lead through Bruno Pereirinha and two goals from Liedson either side of half-time made sure of victory.

Getafe 3-0 AEK Athens (Agg: 4-1)

Getafe advanced to the next round with a 3-0 win over AEK Athens in Madrid.

Leading 1-0 from the first leg, the Azulones doubled their aggregate advantage with a goal from Esteban Granero on the stroke of half-time before late efforts from Cosmin Contra and Braulio sealed the win.

Helsingborgs 1-2 PSV Eindhoven (Agg: 1-4)

Helsingborgs crashed out of the UEFA Cup after a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of PSV Eindhoven.

The visitors went ahead through Mike Zonneveld shortly after the break and Serbian forward Danko Lazovi extended their lead before Leandro Castan grabbed a consolation goal with 10 minutes remaining.

Villarreal 2-1 Zenit St Petersburg (Agg: 2-2)

Nine-man Zenit St Petersburg went through on the away goals rule after a nervy 2-1 defeat at Villarreal.

Zenit - for whom Roman Shirokov and Radek írl were both sent off - took the lead after half an hour through Pavel Pogrebnyak before Guillermo Franco equalised 15 minutes before the end.

Jon-Dahl Tomasson's winner on the stroke of full-time set up an anxious period of injury time, but the visitors held firm to set up a last-16 tie with Marseille.

Bordeaux 1 Anderlecht 1 (Agg: 2-3)

Nine-man Bordeaux crashed out of the UEFA Cup after only managing a draw at home to Belgian champions Anderlecht.

Trailing 2-1 from the first leg last week, the French side were given a glimmer of hope when Fernando Cavenaghi scored in the 71st minute to cancel out Thomas Chatelle's 34th-minute opener, but they imploded spectacularly with two dismissals in the final 16 minutes.

Benoit Tremoulinas saw red minutes after Bordeaux equalised and Mathieu Chalme was sent off with three minutes to go in a game which saw 11 other yellow cards.

Braga 0-0 Werder Bremen (Agg:0-4)

Werder Bremen ensured their passage to the last 16 with a slim win in Portugal.

Leading 3-0 from the first leg, the Germans did the double over Braga courtesy of an Ivan Klasnic strike on 78 minutes and booked a last-16 tie against Rangers.

Nuremberg 2-2 Benfica (Agg: 2-3)

Late goals from Óscar Cardozo and Ángel Di María earned Benfica a dramatic 2-2 draw at Nuremberg that saw them through to the next round.

Second-half goals from Angelos Charisteas and Ivan Saenko appeared to have secured the Germans' progress before Cardozo and Di Maria struck either side of the 90-minute mark to stun the hosts and send them out of the competition.
