Curle: Managerial desire so strong

Tue, 21 Feb 15:11:42 2012

Notts County's new boss Keith Curle revealed his desire to be manager in his own right was too great to team back up with Neil Warnock at Leeds.

Curle, 48, installed on Monday as successor to Martin Allen, who was sacked after Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Hartlepool, was new Leeds manager Warnock's assistant at QPR before the pair were sacked by the Premier League club in January.

Curle, who has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with the Magpies, had the option of becoming Warnock's assistant again at Leeds, but opted to go his own way with County.

He told the club's official website: "I've been working with Neil, and been successful with Neil, but I've always had the desire to be number one again.

"In my first two jobs that I had, I made mistakes and I knew that I needed to learn the finer points of management again. I assisted Neil, used every day as a learning day from his day-to-day involvement in and around the football club."

Curle, who has previously managed Mansfield, Chester and Torquay, added: "I'm excited, very excited. It's the resurrection of my managerial career and to come to a club with this amount of history and tradition, it's a great opportunity for myself."

  1. Being a magpie supporter in exile as it were, I don't / not able to follow all the ins and outs of what is happening everyday. I was worried by their bad run, but thought things had started to turn for the better, and hey Allen is gone.

Must say I have never heard of Curle as a footballer or as a manager, but he does have 3 home matches on the trot to show what he can do.

County are fast gaining a reputation of an open doors policy as far as management goes, who was the last to last a season? If they don't sort the manager out quickly local derbies against Mansfield will once again beckon.

I hope Curle isn't the one to take us there . . . . just for the sake of managerial stability

  2. Will Notts Co sink as fast and as far as Chester and Mansfield. At least Torquay got back on track without assistance from Mr Curle. Black and white disaster coming up.

  3. As a County fan I think Martin Allens dismissal wass a disgrace. Appointing Curle to replace him will turn out to be a disaster. All Curle seems to do when he's in charge of teams is take them down. God help us, I reckon it won't be long before he has us back down in league two again.
