Beattie facing race against time

Fri 21 Mar, 01:30 PM

James Beattie is hoping to shake off his groin injury in time for Sheffield United's derby clash at Barnsley on Saturday afternoon. The Blades striker missed last week's home win over Norwich due to a groin strain, but returned to full training this week and could return to contention.

If Beattie fails to make it, Rob Hulse could continue up front alongside Billy Sharp, while Jon Stead and Luton Shelton provide manager Kevin Blackwell with further options.

Stephen Quinn is also back in the frame following his three-game ban, but fellow midfielders Chris Armstrong, who has undergone surgery to repair a groin tear, and Lee Martin (knee ligaments) are definitely out.

John Halls, on loan from Reading, is pushing for his first appearance, while on-loan Wigan winger David Cotterill is expected to retain his place in the starting line-up.
