Queens Park Rangers boss Luigi De Canio wants to rebuild the squad over the summer to spearhead a genuine push for promotion to the Premier League.

De Canio, 50, has already overseen changes at Rangers this season, and is looking for even more additions as he tries to bring top-flight football back to White City.

"Recently in mid-season, a lot of faces changed and so the most important thing is to gel a team and get everyone thinking with the same mentality," De Canio told the Kilburn Times. "I think in this Championship, 22 players with a very well-spread ability in every position is the ideal if you want to succeed.

"That is what I want next season."

The Italian was brought in after the sacking of John Gregory and - along with billionaire backers Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore - he has instigated a revolution of sorts, with QPR acquiring several new players and moving from the bottom of the table to having an outside chance of reaching the play-offs.

Realistically though, mid-table stability beckons for this campaign and De Canio is hoping that there will be exits to match the inevitable new signings.

"Most, if not all, of the players who are here now have a few more years on their contracts, but for anyone in their last year we'll decide what happens towards the end of the season," the former Udinese and Siena manager added.

QPR lie 12th, seven points off the top six places.
