With both teams needing points to stave off relegation it was no surprise that the opening minutes were a nervy affair.

Scott Carson was undoubtedly the busier keeper in the first-half. The Baggies' stopper making three saves from Matthew Taylor free-kicks and one outstanding stop to deny the former Portsmouth man from eight yards.

West Brom played some good football in the opening 45 minutes but rarely threatened Jussi Jaaskelainen's goal, running out of ideas in the final third.

Marc-Antoine Fortune thought he had put the Baggies ahead on 22 minutes, but his goal was ruled out for offside.

The second half was a familiar story to the first with Bolton happy to let West Brom dominate possession, hitting the home side on the break.

Taylor finally broke the deadlock on 67 minutes after West Brom failed to clear their lines, the midfield man volleying in from the edge of the area.

West Brom's increasing pressure paid-off when Robert Koren cut in from the right and unleashed a shot, which appeared to be flying wide of the post, until Shittu deflected the effort past a helpless Jaaskelainen.

With WBA needing all three points the Baggies laid siege to the Bolton goal in the final minutes without really creating any clear cut chances. While at the other end Taylor spurned a glorious chance to seal the win for Gary Megson's men, Carson making a fine save.

The draw leaves West Brom in dire trouble at the bottom of the table, seven points from safety while Bolton remain in twelfth on 34 points.
