Premier League - Cole hopes Hiddink stays

Ashley Cole says Chelsea's players would love Guus Hiddink to become the club's long-term successor to Luiz Felipe Scolari.

Hiddink is currently only due to manage the Blues for the remainder of the season before returning to coach the Russia national side full-time.

The Dutchman has brought about a swift upturn in form from Chelsea during his brief stint in charge, including masterminding last Saturday's 2-1 FA Cup semi-final success over Arsenal.

Cole has hailed Hiddink's man-management skills and says he has brought the best out of his star-studded squad by restoring self-belief.

"He has got everything. The lads just love him," said Cole. "He can be funny and likes a laugh but he can be serious and when he is serious you know he is serious and he does a great job.

"All managers have a scary side. But he wasn't so much scary - he just made us realise we needed to do something.

"If he needs to put an arm around you then he will. He is not one of those who will leave you on your own to deal with things. He will come over and look after you and tell you things you want to hear.

"He has been a breath of fresh air with the players. He has given us all a belief, he has come in and just made everything click so easily. He has been so good for us.

"It will be sad when he goes. All the players would love him to stay. I definitely would. I don't know what he is thinking or what he can or can't do. We hope he stays, that is all we can do."

  10. hope all the talks abt his departure is just talks not­ to disclose anything before the time. what is left with­ russians ? - just few games on group stage and then the­ wc final which normaly goes if not mistaken in june -­ and this is already by the time when
    premier league is­ over. so it should be assumed roman is talking guus to­ coope managing both teams same time, i.e. guus absence­ for few games or days in uk should not make much harm­ to chelsea performance... let see

  19. Yes i am joining the call and pleadings for Guus to­ stay. everyone loves him . He's done a good job so­ far and his quality speaks volumes of an experienced­ coach and tactician who reads his opponents very well­ and could upset them by his formations. He has adopted­ different formations on or before certain matches which­ is simply the reason chelsea is doing great on and off­ the pitch since his inception.Not just that, he has­ built the mentality of "WE CAN DO IT " in the­ players.....their confidence is second to non though­ they tend to loose their concentration in match­ beginings but Gus has always called them to other.
