Argyle boosted by Doumbe news

Wed 21 May, 11:45 AM

Plymouth Argyle's Mat Doumbe will put pen to paper on a new two-year contract next week, while Luke Summerfield has signed a one-year deal.French defender Doumbe, who joined the Pilgrims in 2004 from Hibernian, would have been out of contract this summer but has now accepted the terms on offer to stay at Home Park.

The 29-year-old, who can play at centre-back or right-back, made only 14 first-team appearances in 2007/8, mainly due to injury problems.

But with the likes of Paul Connolly and Paul Wotton having left the club on free transfers - and with Dutchman Marcel Seip still on the transfer list after falling out with manager Paul Sturrock - Doumbe's commitment comes as a major boost to the Devon club.

Also staying in Plymouth is midfielder Summerfield, the son of Argyle assistant manager Kevin Summerfield.

The 20-year-old started only five Championship games last season but impressed towards the end of the campaign, particularly in the 3-0 home win over Blackpool.

There are still two Pilgrims mulling over contract offers - French defensive midfielder Nadjim Abdou and young winger Dan Smith. Sturrock expects to learn their decisions in the next couple of days.
