Zoltan's gearing up for big decision

Wed 21 May, 06:15 PM

Zoltan Gera's agent says the West Brom winger will "make the final decision about his future next week" - and insists money is not the key.The Baggies playmaker, who is out of contract this summer, is understood to have already received an offer from Portuguese giants Benfica, while reports in his native Hungary have seen him strongly linked with Everton - and Bolton boss Gary Megson has been a long-term admirer of the 29-year-old.

However, Gera's English agent Sam Stapleton denies that his client has already agreed to leave The Hawthorns and has made it clear that the midfielder will make a decision regarding his future some time next week.

"Gera has a couple of offers and he'll chose which one fits him best," said Stapleton. "He will make the final decision about his future next week.

"For Gera the change is not about money, but the possibility to step forward in his career."

The Hungarian international has previously stated his desire to play in Europe, while he has also spoke of his admiration for Latin football.

That would appear to put Benfica in a commanding position to secure his signature, and his Hungarian agent Vladan Filipovic has confirmed that the Eagles are currently leading the race.

"The Portugal teams intentions are serious, though it's not news to me," Filipovic told Hungarian daily Nemzeti Sport.

"Benfica have been showing interest in him about for a month. But I don't want to talk about more details until after the deal is done.

"Zoli's contract is expiring and we don't want to make any early decisions.

Though I think it will be decided in a week or in a maximum ten days.

"His team were promoted to the Premier League but I don't believe he'd stay there."
