Hammers face Europa League ban

Eurosport - Thu, 21 May 12:06:00 2009

West Ham United could miss out on a spot in the Europa League next season after failing to achieve the standards of the UEFA club licence.

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 Premier League West Ham Zola - 0

According to a report in the Daily Telegraph, the Hammers have yet to declare their accounts and that, together with confusion surrounding the club's ownership structure, has left then unable to submit a licence application.

West Ham are currently seventh in the Premier League and on course for the Europa League (the new UEFA Cup), but unless they satisfy UEFA's standards by the end of May Gianfranco Zola's (pictured) men will miss out.

UEFA require all clubs to declare audited accounts and future financial forecasts, and to meet several legal and administrative conditions in order to be granted a club licence.

But West Ham are still waiting on banks to return their accounts and, with their future unclear, the club are finding it hard to project figures going forward.

    The whole club makes me laugh, absolute dogs**t!!!! I'm a spurs fan being bottom of the table at the beginning of the season, and accumalating that many points to go above West Ham is brilliant!! Only two teams that deserve the Europe spot are Fulham and Tottenham.

  2. it doesnt matter anyway cause their 9TH NOT 7Th. Fulham have it in the bag. They only need a point at everton or need spurs to lose to liverpool!! COME ON DA COTTAGERS ALL THE WAY TO EUROPE

  6. Well if we do not get the paperwork sorted at least we look like we will qualify, which given that all players who get selected to play are instantly selected for the transfer list, which has to be some kind of achievement :-)

  7. Oh I forgot, another pressing matter for EUFA;
    The bending of the rules for the big clubs;
    Arshavin transfer after the transfer window had closed
    Alex F referee selection
    Fixture list tampering

  8. I'm sure if West Ham qualify they can get their house in order. Shouldn't EUFA be looking at more pressing matters;
    The amount of Debt of some sides MUFC 500M?
    The refusal to use domestic players ARSENAL, INTER and BARCA main culprits?
    The tapping up of players?
    The pressure referees are put under to make bad decisions?

  9. More important and pressing thing for UEFA to address. They are only interested in the money aspect.

  11. Thanks Andy, the brotherhood of football is obviously not dead! I just want English teams to get into Europe and do well, Platini and his cronies despise the English leagues and their success. Our tribal warfare just gives them more ammunition! I have been a WHU supporter for 51 years but whoever gets the UEFA spots I wish them well!

  19. spot on SteveP1960. ValleyD50 fancies himself as someone that knows how the FA should operate. The rule West Ham broke met the correct punishment the first time FA ruled on it. Third party ownership of a player that's signed does not automatically equal a points deduction. The FA proved that with their decision not to deduct points. Somehow the Sheffield United fans are convinced they should have been involved in the decision making process.
