Premier League - Youngs doubtful for Newcastle clash

Eurosport - Thu, 21 May 17:20:00 2009

Aston Villa winger Ashley Young and full-back Luke Young are battling to be fit for Sunday's home clash with relegation-threatened Newcastle.

FOOTBALL Aston Villa Ashley Young - 0

Ashley Young (pictured) is striving to overcome a calf strain which forced him to be substituted during second half of the the 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

The former Watford player has had an outstanding season and was recently crowned the PFA Young Player Of The Year. Luke Young is still troubled by the foot injury which has dogged him in recent weeks and for which he has needed painkillers to play.

The one-time England defender has enjoyed a successful first season at Villa and filled in effectively at left-back when Nicky Shorey was out of favour.

Villa manager Martin O'Neill said: "Luke is probably doubtful still but we will give him every possible minute to see how he is.

"Ashley is still sore but we are still a few days from Sunday. He is feeling a lot better, which is good."

  1. The boy Young hurt himself in diving practice; i've kept an eye on this boy and believe it or not, he's and even bigger diver than the Louanis boy at man united - apparently, his nickname in the dressing room is Tom Daly . . . . . it's true!

  3. Next season ARSENAL should buy these players..

    DC - Mamadou Sakho
    DC - Philipe Mexes
    DMC - Jeremy Toulalan
    ST - Pavel Pogrebnyak

with that kind of quality players, i think arsenal can compete with MANSHITTER UTD, LITTLEPOO & CHELSKI

Tell me, why on earth are you actually here?
Are you just being a naughty illegal immigrant and stirring it up?
Go and get a job you scrounger; or better still, go back to where you escaped from.

  10. d.papas2. Who apart from yourself and others like you are making an issue out of this then. I haven't read one comment from a mag or anyone from the club, or Sunderland for that matter moaning about it. Acknowledging it is going to happen yes, moaning no, just you and impactclean

Hutch, just read you're sentence and if it makes sense then maybe your brain really is bigger than mine even though its the same size! Were you to say it was used more effieciently, or had a better capacity for knowledge retention then maybe i would of been impreesed. But basically you just did a "my dads bigger than yours!" Enjoy fizzy pop footy next year if ya a Jock wannabe, if ya a citeh fan! Then just enjoy those dreams! Chelski have money, still smaller than UTD! Mug!

Hutch, I believe Chelski have already tried the money route! There are only so many players you can buy! Utd are still above them, just as they always will be! As for nobody complaining! I don't even support united but if you honestly think nobody is moaning about the squad he plays you're having a laugh! ALSO, WHO IS THE BIGGEST TEAM IN WORLD FOOTBALL RIGHT NOW? Madrid LOL! Barca? Maybe if they win Wednesday?! But i'd say European and World Champs make you top you muppet! As for you're big brain, it most certainly must be big! Gotta counter balance that chip on you're shoulder! Seriously, who the hell uses brain size to counter an argument about football!?? IDIOT!

Nobody is complaining about weakened teams you idiot and nobody cares about what constitutes a 'big team'. My brain is almost certainly the same size as yours but mine is clearly a much bigger brain. Machester United aren't the biggest team in the world and when Man City start spending their cash properly, United won't even be the biggest team in Manchester.

couldn't be further from the truth pal; as usual, you know nowt about NUFC - do me a favour, go do some research before you spout your juvenile drivel.
If we go, we go because over 38 games we just haven't cut the mustard - easy enough for you to understand?

Utd have played weaker teams about 10 times! Thet have benched ronaldo, van der sar and rooney all season. The reason the teams are down the bottom is beacuse they have been shi te! Thats not utd's fault! I hope they win, and that all three northern teams lose, its just a shame West brom have been so poor or we could of gotten rid of all three! They're all a joke! Sunderland and boro cant fill their grounds and necastle "we are a big team" haven't won anything for 50 years!!!!!

the report that manu will field a weakened team,
I suppose that newcastle will be enraged should hull win against manu,of course then it will be all down to saf and a conspiracy at manu to engineer newcys downward path.
    predictable,almost like an open book.
