Scottish Premier League - Samaras provokes Rangers

Georgios Samaras claims Celtic are a better team than Rangers and insists the Ibrox side will be undeserving champions if they clinch the SPL title against Dundee United on Sunday.

Celtic have relinquished an eight-point advantage to leave Rangers within one win of wrenching the title back from Parkhead.

The Light Blues are two points clear at the top of the SPL and victory in their final game of the campaign at Tannadice - regardless of how Celtic get on against Hearts at Parkhead - would make Walter Smith's side champions.

However, Celtic striker Samaras does not buy in to the traditional belief the best team always win the league.

"Like last year, they were seven points clear and we won the title and I said that we were the better team," he said. "Now it's the opposite. But if they are going to win it, I don't think they deserve it.

"I think we are a better team than them.

"If they are going to win it then fair play - but it's our mistakes (that let them) and I think we are a better team than Rangers."

However, the former Manchester City flop was in no mood to give the Govan club the satisfaction of believing he will be looking for the Tannadice result during Celtic's match against Hearts.

"I really don't care what they do," he said.

"I am only thinking about our game, trying to play good football and get the three points.

"We will see in the end if we are going to win the title or not."

  4. 22 - my figures do stack up. you can only win the­ league you are in. rangers and septic both play in­ scotland. rangers have won it more times by a fair­ amount. this season as it stands rangers are top of the­ league. deal in facts and you will find that therefore­ rangers are the better team in scotland. end of story

  5. Wouldnt expect anything else from the most­ disrespectful team in the SPL. The manager can never­ praise other teams and now its passed down to the­ players. Just because Celtic have thrown away a big­ points lead yet again doesnt mean Rangers dont deserve­ the title.

Or how­ about those goals scored last year when he joined the­ team. I suppose the Celtics knew little in signing him­ a contract extension.   20. im sorry but samaras is p***, if it was brown or­ nakamura saying this i would take notice, but it isnt.­ whatever happened to players playing the ball and the­ game, whats with this constant talking, i heard it was­ a mans game. Im going to watch womans tennis at least­ the play the ball and not talk about other teams or­ players (that includes trying to get folk sent off,­ what was that boy thinking).
