Cerny "pleased" with gong

Thu 21 May, 11:56 AM

QPR goalkeeper Radek Cerny has landed the PUMA Championship Golden Glove award.

The Czech star, who joined from Tottenham at the start of the season, kept 19 clean sheets to share the award with Sheffield United keeper Paddy Kenny.

But 35-year-old Cerny admitted he would have swapped any personal plaudits for the club winning promotion.

"I'm very pleased to win this award - but I'd rather have won a medal for going up," he told Rangers' official website.

"Keeping clean sheets is a big part of a goalkeeper's job but I never really kept count. I prefer to keep count of the number of wins we register because that's what governs where you finish in the league at the end of the season.

"We didn't win enough matches last season and that's something we need to improve next season."
