Duffen unfazed by United row

Thu, 21 May 12:19:55 2009

Hull chairman Paul Duffen has refused to be drawn into the row over the strength of the Manchester United team his side will face this weekend.

With United having already won the Premier League, there have been suggestions Sir Alex Ferguson may choose to rest his top names ahead of the Champions League final.

That could improve Hull's chances of beating relegation and at the same time anger their rivals at the foot of the table; Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Sunderland.

Duffen told Sky Sports News: "From our perspective I'm just delighted our rivals on Sunday are more focused on our opposition than their own. We're happy, we know what we have to do.

"Whatever team Manchester United put out it is going to be a very tough ask for us. Even if they put youngsters out they could still field 11 internationals and we have to focus on winning the game.

"I feel we have to beat the side in front of us, I really don't worry too much about what other people are going to do and it is not an issue that is going to disturb us."

  1. I am a Hull City supporter and quite frankly Man United's youth team could beat us at the moment. Agree with comment number 6. No such thing as a weak Man United side-------------------unfortunately still hoping for a miracle

  2. Hull would have been much better off playing Man United's first eleven because nobody would dare to get injured and their focus would be on the CL final. Playing the second team would only mean that the youngsters would be more focused and anxious to claim their place in the first team next season. They have nothing to lose and everything to gain and that can only spell trouble for Hull. Go Man United.

  4. Fielding a young team does not mean it is weaker than fielding a star team. Young players, especially players from this MU young team, have something to prove. Like Macheda, he did scored in 2 important games but he still lacks of playing time. The next game, if he plays, will be the best platform for him to show his skill. So as other players, like Gibbson, etc. The star players, even if there is no final for them, may not be playing 100% in such a game. Trophy presentation is over and their EPL season is actually over. They don't have to prove anything.

Can you say Aston Villa is stronger than the young MU team or Chelsea team in this moment? Aston Villa have nothing to play for and their recent form is terrible. Even if they field all their first team players, they may not perform.

ANY team should field the strongest team that they can for ANY game. Regardless of if they do not need the points or have another game soon after..
