Friedel warns Villa will fight

Thu 21 May, 03:22 PM

Brad Friedel has warned relegation threatened Newcastle that Aston Villa will not roll over and gift them three points in Sunday's Premier League clash at Villa Park.

Newcastle need a positive result to keep alive their hopes of remaining in the top flight.

But keeper Friedel insists Villa will be aiming to put their recent poor form behind them in the race to secure fifth place and edge out Everton.

Friedel told Talk Sport: "Our form has been a bit disappointing recently. But we are still fighting for a fifth-place finish and that might not bode well for Newcastle as we definitely have something to play for.

"After finishing in sixth place last season we do want to do better this season.

"I know we've already qualified for the Europa League but we are professionals and we do want to do the best we can all the time and we do want to secure that fifth spot."

  1. Villa players (talented or not)have a history going AWOL at the end of every season
for the last 10 season or so regardless of whats at stake or who the manager is.
A succession of managers have told us they know how the fans feel , and the players
are just as upset. Easy words to say but sadley no longer believable same end of
season disapointment after a very promising start , because we can finish no lower
than sixth most of the players seem to have gone on holiday already regardless of
fact they get big pay packets to entertain us until the end of season and not give
up six matches from the end of the season. play with some heart against newcastle
and give the fans who pay thier hard earned cash something to shout about.
