Gunners legend Robert Pires believes "Arsenal need Arsene Wenger more than he needs them".
The French coach has allayed fears he was set to quit Emirates Stadium for Real Madrid following criticism by some supporters in the wake of a fourth season without silverware.
Wenger, whose contract runs until 2011, continues to have the full support of the board, with chief executive Ivan Gazidis insisting their manager was going nowhere when quizzed while on a visit to Dubai at the unveiling of a new soccer school.
Pires, 35, was part of the all-conquering Arsenal side which won the double twice and went unbeaten throughout the entire 2003/2004 league campaign and feels Wenger has become synonymous with the north London club over the past 13 years, and it would be hard to imagine life without him at the helm.
"Arsenal need Arsene Wenger more than he needs Arsenal," Pires told www.setanta.com. "Arsene made Arsenal what they are today, and the fans understand it perfectly.
"If he was to leave tomorrow, he would do it with his head up, not by the back door."

ARSENE WENGER IS A GREAT MANAGER!!! DON'T FORGET THE HARDWORKS & TROPHIES HE BRINGS TO HIGHBURY!!! I'M A MANCHESTER UNITED FAN,BUT I ENVY HIM SO MUCH!! HE'E GOOD REPLACEMENT IF SAF STEP DOWN!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORKS & THE MOST IMPORTANT "FAITH"..GOD BLESS U!!!
Who ever wants Arsene Wenger out is a TERRORIST
It looks lyk there are a lot of people with coaching expirience among Arsenal fans but dont know y are they not sending in their C.V so that they can take over from Arsen Wenger maybe next season we can win a trophy. If u cant do that job then keep quiet and wait 4 the coming season with Arsen Wenger coaching the young Gunners.
When Arsene Wenger dies then Arsenal will ends up...according to Pires
l entirely agree that Wenger is the best coach in the business. Even managers who spend alot of money every season has Fergie and Rafa respect him. They know that even if his squad is not that big, he is their biggest threat. However, l think Wenger would be doing much better with someone like David Dain as Chairman of Arsenal FC. I don't think Peter still has a lot to offer. We want a vibrant board and not the one that criticizes without playing their part. Wenger needs to get rid of Ade coz he has a poor attitude. Personally, l think the comments he made about Milan just before our CL game demoralised his collesgues. We need a player like Santa Cruz to replace him.

Ive been reading all the comments written about Mr. wenger which i like to call the professor, and u can notice 1 thing in the arsenal fan base their is 2 types: the real fans who supports the team & the manager in the best and in the worst days & the second type which don't know anything about loyalty and just wont to win to tease his friends in the bar... well we all agree that the second type is a shame for all the real fans and what im sure about is that they know about football as much as i know about rocket science... well let me in light u glory hunters a little bit about the PROFESSOR (read carefully and learn cause u need 2):
Arsène Wenger is the most successful manager in the history of Arsenal in terms of trophies Wenger is the only non-British manager to win the Double in England. In 2004, he became the only manager in FA Premier League history to go through the entire season without defeat. Wenger is widely regarded as one of the world's best managers. Wenger has a degree in engineering and a Master's degree in economics and is fluent in French, German and English; he also speaks Italian, Spanish and Japanese. His managerial career took off when he became the manager of AS Monaco in 1987. He won the league in 1988 (first season) & the French Cup in 1991, & signed high-calibre players such as Jürgen Klinsmann. He moved on to a successful 18-month stint with the Japanese team Nagoya Grampus , with whom he won the Cup & national cup . He also took the club from the bottom three to runners-up position in the league. In his second season in charge of arsenal (1997-98), Arsenal won both the EPL and FA Cup, Peter Hill-Wood "Arsène's basically spent, since he's been with us, £4m a year net." An example of this ability was the purchase of Anelka for only £500,000 and his sale to Real Madrid just 2 years later for £22.3m. the money was used to buy Henry, Pirès & Wiltord who
