Bednar's a bouncing Czech after rise

Sat 21 Jun, 03:15 PM

Roman Bednar's agent says he is "not a million miles" away from securing a bumper pay rise for the striker following West Brom's promotion.Czech hitman Bednar spent last season on loan at The Hawthorns from SPL outfit Hearts.

Albion put an option in place to sign him permanently if he was a success, and took that up earlier this summer, handing him a three-year contract.

Bednar is one of several players, however, who have been offered improved terms by chairman Jeremy Peace following Albion's elevation to the Premier League, which was secured by winning the Championship title.

The 25-year-old chipped in with 17 crucial goals last season, with many of them coming at a time when prolific strike pair Ishmael Miller and Kevin Phillips were sidelined with injury.

There has been a slight delay in Bednar putting pen to paper, though, as he is currently on holiday and the Baggies are keen to add a fourth year to his contract, with the player preferring to stick with his three-year length.

Bednar's agent Eliot van Til said: "We're not a million miles apart and hopefully it is just a case of us agreeing a few details now.

"Hopefully everything can be sorted out pretty soon. West Brom have made us an offer and we are still discussing that but Roman is away on holiday at the moment.

"When he is back hopefully things will speed up and we can get something sorted out," he added in the Express & Star.
