Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has hailed the attitude and professionalism of Maik Taylor after the goalkeeper committed his future to the club.Taylor, 36, whose contract was due to expire at the end of June, has penned a new two-year deal at St Andrews after being tracked by a number of top-flight managers, including Rafael Benitez.

McLeish believes that Taylor will be a key figure in his side's promotion bid.

He told the club's official website: "Maik is an excellent keeper and a fine athlete, who has kept himself in great condition.

"I'm delighted he's further shown his commitment to the club by signing the new deal."
