STUTTGART, Germany (AFP) - VfB Stuttgart insisted Saturday they have no intention of letting German international striker Mario Gomez leave for Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich.
After initial talks with the Bavarian club, Stuttgart general manager Horst Heldt said: "We've indicated to Bayern that we will not free Mario Gomez."
Heldt revealed that he had talks with Bayern bosses on Friday and the German champions had confirmed their interest in the 22-year-old striker.
But he added: "In order to allow Mario Gomez focus on his Euro 2008 matches the club will make no further comment on this affair between now and the end of the tournament."
Gomez has 13 caps and six goals for the national side.
He was the top Bundesliga scorer in 2007 with 19 goals and is under contract with Stuttgart until 2012.
The German press have been reporting in recent weeks that Gomez has signed a pre-contract to join the Bavarian side in July 2009.
