With all the transfer rumours and talk of inflated fees flying around, some clubs are struggling to avoid getting carried away.
The summer transfer window is traditionally a time for clubs to reassure their fans by bidding for the kind of stellar names that prove their 'ambition' for the coming season, but even Tottenham fans will baulk at the news in today's Daily Star that Spurs are lining up an audacious double bid for Real Zaragoza striker Diego Milito and Real Madrid frontman Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Samuel Eto'o recently became about the 36th top-class striker in recent memory to reject a move to Tottenham on the grounds that he's not entirely sure who they are, but the Daily Mirror reports that they're also in the hunt for Bayern Munich's German international striker Lukas Podolski.
Down the road at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger's nerve is reportedly being tested by a £25 million bid for Emmanuel Adebayor from Barcelona, whose Icelandic striker-cum-midfielder-cum-benchwarmer Eidur Gudjohnsen is being lusted after by Portsmouth and West Ham.
Shaun Wright-Phillips is a man who knows a thing or two about ill-advised moves to big clubs, but the Daily Express reports that Martin O'Neill is ready to bring his career flatlining to an end by taking him to Aston Villa.
Depending on who you believe, Wright-Phillips could either be replaced by David Bentley or lining up alongside him next season, with the Express claiming that Chelsea and Villa (and Spurs) are the clubs forming an orderly queue for his signature.
Having recently signed out-of-favour Liverpool left-back John Arne Riise, Roma's Stadio Olimpico will soon resemble a rest home for fading Premier League regulars of yesteryear if rumours of a move for Manchester United pair Louis Saha and Mikael Silvestre can be believed.
Turning our attention to next season's relegation battle, and Paris St Germain striker Bernard Mendy faces a seemingly straightforward choice between the ancient charms of north-west Italy and the rather less salubrious attractions of Humberside, with Sampdoria and top-flight new boys Hull City reportedly competing for his services.

@#$% you u scum gooner what the @#$% did u win last year
that comment was posted by mr.ken from lagos nigeria.i alwyas think fergie is a nigerian.why is crying over a spiled milk.even if ronaldo stays injury will rule him out this season.go ronaldo go
its a nice lesson for fergie, football is a team game and i dont see any reason why ronaldo will be treated as god.look at wes brown earning 40000 a week its realy a mess.let ronaldo go,nani and anderson will play regulary,if possible let him go for quarisma.i never liked ronaldo in man u.let that be a lesson to fergie who behaves more like a nigerian than a scotish
lol gooners are going on about spurs fans again... there was a newcastle supporter here somewhere below as well, and you know what came to my mind? i think once gooners start to go through prologed period of failures & AW leaves at some point eventually, it will be all downfall from there. You can make all the fun of spurs for now, but the truth is that teams like Spurs and Newcastle will ALWAYS hold onto their fanbase, with or WITHOUT trophy & success - that's a luxury that not every club can boast, especially the ones with 'bubble' fanbase acquired from momentary successes of recent times.
I think we should keep Berba and go for Arshavin... we got Modric already, watching Euro 2008, I can't help but fantasise about Modric-Keane-Berbatove-Arshavin line-up... will probably be the cleverest attacking force in the whole EPL, possibly even in Europe... well, fantasy aside, whatever the transffer speculations of the day are, they are just that - speculations... after following every Euro matches, I'm just happy that we got Modric, I really have a feeling that he will be special for us next season...
liverpool should contact the likes of barry gareth & david villa to boost there squad
and rafael benitez should give us premier league & champioms league
Please elaborate on my need to sort my own spelling out...I agree that Liverpool are in desperate need of a Premier League win, but that is a different matter. You say that I should leave Arsenal fans to worry about their own team, but the irony is that that is exactly what they need to do regarding Tottenham. My post was mainly in response to so many Arsenal fans mocking Spurs, when they should be more concerned with their own issues. It looks to me as if their ridiculing of Tottenham's ambitious transfer plans is more an insecure reflection on their own anxieties about lack of ambition. So sod off you funny coloured dinosaur.
Last post needs to sort his own spelling out lol...He who casts the first stone and all that!! Adebayor is probably going to Barcelona, so be it. Liverpool have a glorious past, but maybe a prem league win would be nice, the fans have been waiting a long time don't you think? And Mr. midnite, you worry about your own team and leave gooners to theirs eh?
Karl G, comedian is a noun, not an adjective, you creatin. Apart from your mongoloid English (spot the mistake), and your dubious claim to know someone of note at Spurs, you are not as much of a @#$% as some of the people on here. Although signing horse-face may appear unlikely, it's not out of the question. It's not as if Madrid are renowned for keeping hold of players they probably should keep hold of: Samuel Etoo, anyonne...As for the comments regarding Tottenham's lack of ambition, signing two of the hottest prospects in world football seems to suggest otherwise. It seems to me it is the mighty Arse are the ones lacking ambition, highlighted by their intention to keep the incredibly overrated Adebayor and Wenger's comments regarding the lack of need for defensive cover. You may think I'm a tottenham fan, or, at the very least, anti-Arse. While the latter may be true, and given Arsene's penchant for small boys, righty so, I'm a 'pool fan. But, honestly speaking, I'm getting increasingly nervous about our chances of finishing in the top four. Retarded Arseenal supporters should be too, as if you think the woefully untested Nasri is the answer to your prayers, you are mistaken. You tossers.
Ruud Van Nistelrooy scored 150 goals in 200 app. for Man Utd............................Rubbish ?? And 32 in 64 app. for Holland. And now with Real Madrid ,he has skored ca.47 in 60 app. he`s the best goal scorer in the world ! He will score tonight ,wait and see. he will not leave Real Madrid this summer !!! And who cares how he looks like ?
No ronaldo section this time??? XD
Why isit when a promising team in the EPL get so abused these days .. i'm a newcastle fan and the last 3 or so years i've had to put up with united and arsenal fans tell me that newcastle are worthless and rubbish and are never a top 5 team,, who is it them to say that !?!?! there just jelious that a 'lower' team like tottenham are getting all the media hype on transfer targets .. its funny to realise that i'v not seen no chelsea fan go on how tottenham are a pile of @#$% ? maybe because the media are in love with abrahmovic's billions!! let tottenham have the media spot light because like newcastle they wont have it for long!!!
Ruud and his big head are at one of the best clubs in the world..why would he even think about joining spurs???..o wait they might win another real important trophy again like the carling cup..at least im confident in my lifetime that spurs wont ever win the league..its a nice thought
Tottenham will be a top class team with these signings trust me
From Denis
joanne do u wanna put money on spurs finnishing in the bottom half next season?
LMAO, you numptys actually believe the @#$%, that is being written on TT and in the papers, don't you?
I'm a yid, through and through and i can tell you, we will only buy a striker if Berbatov leaves, which is looking increasingly unlikely. It's all rumours for people to buy the papers and read websites. I know a guy high up in WHL and he gives me some info.
Eto'o was on the shortlist, but never talked about when we brought Dos Santos. We've had bids for Berbatov, but in the lower region of 20million, which levy laughed out the room.
We've got a budget set aside for two keepers, another CB, and a DM. And possibly another midfielders, dependent on who we sell.
Stop believing this tripe, TT and the papers write, it's all bullshit and their trying to be funny, they need to brush up on their comedian skills, to do so.
I wish Spurs would actually sign someone instead of all these rumours, its getting frustrating being linked with everyone and getting no one(other than Modric and Santos)
spurs are below average prem team as proven last season.... enough said
Never a dull moment when Spurs is around. Hilarious!!
skillz, i think you'll find spurs won the cup this season so its hardly dating back to the 60's is it!and modric is a sensational player!
