Premier League - Tevez to leave United

Eurosport - Sun, 21 Jun 08:20:00 2009

Manchester United have confirmed that Carlos Tevez will leave Old Trafford after he rejected a five-year contract.

2008-2009 Manchester United Carlos Tevez - 0

A statement on the club's website said they had agreed to pay £25.5 million for the Argentine striker, but their contract offer was rejected.

The statement said: "Following contact received from Carlos Tevez's advisors last night, in advance of the deadline the club set for concluding negotiations, Manchester United announces that Carlos will not be signing a new contract with the club.

"The club agreed to pay the option price of £25.5m and offered Carlos a five-year contract which would have made him one of its highest paid players.

"Disappointingly however, his advisors informed the club that, despite the success he has enjoyed during one of the club's most successful periods, he does not wish to continue playing for Manchester United.

"The club would like to thank Carlos for his services over the last two seasons and wishes him good luck for the future."

Tevez is a fans' favourite at Old Trafford but his relationship with the club's management soured in light of United's reluctance to offer him a permanent contract.

Tevez was loaned from his third-party owners Media Sports Investment, and has been linked with a move to rivals Manchester City and Chelsea.

The 25-year-old joined United on an initial two-year loan deal from West Ham United in August 2007. He scored 34 goals in 98 appearances.

He had caught the eye of manager Alex Ferguson by scoring at Old Trafford as West Ham beat United 1-0 on the final game of the 2006-07 season to avoid relegation.

In his first season at United Tevez scored 19 goals and was a vital cog in the Premier League and Champions League winning side.

  1. hey Man Utd fans, DON'T be fanatic, let the kid go... he's done the best 4 u. Mayb one day he'll be back, but don't be unfair with him... you just live once & he allways had madrid's dream. It doesn't means he isn't greatfull. He loves england, but sportsmen needs new challanges. That's called ambition & courage. Don't judge what you can't deal with.

C.Ronaldo is a player that still has alot to offer to the round lether game. His living M U is for good to the la liga.next year 45% ronaldo fans and 50% percent meci will fucus more on the laliga n of cos sometimes on the english footballl. it will make chealsea greater.we will see the normal bored english pass and shoot flaver.trevez is a very good footballstruggler but sir alex pride and chioce of selecting english players more than other foreigners player made him to forget to give the big man from argentina a clear chance even with the result on the wall. i love ronaldo .tevez and others but now i remenber sarh and what would have happened to mikel.next year i see a new m.u in the middle of the table like in the ist quater of the league when he ronaldo was injured......

  8. The departure of Tevez marks the end of the voice of Quiros who by his association with the club brought the european flair that we now know with Man U. We will now go back to the old drab shoot and run game most English clubs are made for. I wish the Club had acted with some loyalty to a guy who asked and asked and asked to be respected.

  13. surely it will be united who will regret the way they treated this man who seemed to give his all ,when he was given the chance !why did they ignore him for so long ?

  14. Tevez will look back in a few years time and will regret leaving man utd. Its a shame hes leaving and he could go on and do great things for the club but its his choice and he will look back and say i should have stayed at Man Utd.

But personaly i dont blame him, i blame us why pick Berbatov over Tevez. Man Utd have driven him away not given him regular starts. Look at the work rates and you will see Tevez is a terrier and will track everything down and will not give up till the end. He kept on pushing and scored a goal in the last minuet against Stoke to give us a cruicial 3 points to keep up the premiership challange. And Berbatov well that penalty against Everton says it all...

  15. tevez your agent is gonna destroy your career and ultimately you through greed. your running around will be missed but you never really cut goals wise anyway. truth is it didn't matter what united was going to offer, you was allways going togo. the one good thing that will come from it is, united might just act a bit quicker in future when it comes to securing good players.

  17. I, for one, am glad he is going. All this will he, won't he go nonsense was so similar to Ronaldo's antics last season, and it all get a tad tiring after a while. If Tevez is only following the money, then goodbye and we won't weep over you.

  18. Im dissapointed Tevez is leaving Old Trafford is work rait and goal scoring is better that Berbatov.I wish him all the best for is future im not surprised he's leaving after being snubbed so many times by Sir Alex, who would want to stay somewere when your thaught of like that, Man u fans should thank him for what he as done for is team grabbing late winner's and all after all if he had'nt Liverpool would have taken the title.farewell to a top world class player.Look after him City.

  20. I do not think Ronaldo or Teves leaving is going to hurt united very much, yes I do not think thay will win champions league next season but I still think thay will be there or abouts for the other trophies. United have Hargreaves to come back in central midfield that will help carrick out alot as to much was asked of him last season with an aging Scholes and an inexperianced Anderson, Tosic is a brilliant young winger who might get his chance to replace Ronaldo you have Nani who knowes this is his last season to impress or he is gone and with Rooney & Berbatov up front or possibly Rooney & Macheda United is still a team that is capable of winning trophies. On top of all that the team has great depth and WHO is going to come into the team, Sir Alex Has a small matter of £80 million to spend plus thay have the best manager in the world by far and he will be looking forward to a new chalange, one that most people say he has not got a hope in hell of achiving next season Prem Champions.
