World Cup qual - Japan demand private World Cup camp

Eurosport - Sun, 21 Jun 10:14:00 2009

Japan are demanding a private hotel as a base at next year's World Cup finals to soothe fears over security in South Africa.

FOOTBALL 2008 Japan coach Takeshi Okada - 0

Japan coach Takeshi Okada (pictured) has flown to South Africa to inspect three potential venues and will insist on a hotel closed to the public, Japanese media reported.

"The most important thing is that the players don't feel stressed," Okada told Japan's Nikkan Sports daily.

"We will spend a long time in the country so it's important to create an environment in which the players can relax."

Japan's concerns over South Africa's high crime rate were heightened after several Egyptian players had their hotel rooms burgled at the Confederations Cup.
