Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot returned to a familiar centre-back role in Saturday's defeat by Schalke but vowed to play anywhere he is asked.Broadfoot made some crucial blocks as the German side dominated in a 1-0 victory in the Ventils Arena.
With Carlos Cuellar still nursing a calf strain, the Scotland B defender settled in well alongside David Weir in the position in which he made his name for St Mirren.
Most of Broadfoot's 34 appearances in his debut season at Rangers came at full-back, but the 23-year-old is not hankering after a return to a more central role.
"I wouldn't say it's my favoured position," he told Rangers World.
"I'm happy to play anywhere. The manager has asked me that and I have told him that I will play anywhere.
"Playing centre-half alongside Davie was nice but I'll play anywhere.
"As a player you want to play every game. I hope I can get in the manager's plans and be part of the team when it comes around to Saturday and midweek.
"I have just got to keep working hard and get my head down and hopefully I can be."
After victories against Preussen Munster and Sportfreunde Lotte, the game against last season's Champions League quarter-finalists was a step up in class.
Andrius Velicka almost snatched a draw for Rangers when his diving header struck the post with five minutes left but that was a rare glimpse of goal for the visitors.
However, Broadfoot believes the trip to Holland and Germany served its purpose, to get the players fit ahead of the new season, which starts with a Champions League qualifier on July 30, almost certainly against Kaunas.
"It has been three different teams but to be fair the lower-league teams have been really good," Broadfoot said.
"They have been sharp and gave us a good test. It's been a difficult trip. It's been hard work but that will stand us in good stead for the season."
Rangers now play Clyde on Tuesday followed by a clash at Raith Rovers on Saturday, and Broadfoot expects more tough encounters.
"With Rangers coming to town they will raise their game," he said.
"They will give us a good test and probably rough us up but we're looking forward to it."
