McNamee gets praise from Vincent

Mon 21 Jul, 02:45 PM

Swindon defender Jamie Vincent described team-mate Anthony McNamee as "a special player" after their pre-season game against Portsmouth.Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp felt McNamee was "lively and sharp" during his side's 3-1 pre-season friendly win and reckons the winger will be "a big asset" to the Robins.

Vincent echoed those comments and told the Swindon Advertiser: "It is easy when you are playing behind someone like Macca. As long as you can get the ball and give it to him you can almost let him get on with it.

"You will probably find the way he is playing at the moment, teams will double up on him and it will become more difficult for him. But if we can isolate him one against one you will see he will get crosses in and provide chances.

"He is a special player to have and he has come on as well. When he arrived he was not very fit but he has worked at it, worked hard in pre-season and that showed in the Portsmouth game.

"The only way to stop him in training is by kicking him - the problem is getting anywhere near him."
