Stoke boss Tony Pulis expects to continue his spending this week and new boy Dave Kitson is excited by the names on the Welsman's hit-list.Kitson became Stoke's first arrival of the summer when he made a £5.5million switch from Reading on Friday and Pulis is hoping to follow it up with similarly big captures.
The Potters squad are currently on a training camp in Austria but Pulis has had the club doctor flown out as well so that prospective new signings can undergo a medical and tie up their transfers as quickly as possible.
Sunderland goalkeeper Marton Fulop will be the next to arrive, while his team-mate and City's former skipper Danny Higginbotham could also make the move from the Stadium of Light. Pulis has so far refused to publicly comment on any of his targets but is hopeful of getting deals done this week.
"There's quite a few things happening and a lot bubbling just under the surface," he told The Sentinel.
"We're hoping to sort one or two deals out, and it makes no difference that we're out here in Austria. The doc has flown out with us to be with the rest of the medical team so they are all under one roof and can work in unison when the time comes.
"If we can do something this week then we intend flying the players out here to join us as soon as possible so we can get the medical done and get them training with the lads."
Eyebrows were raised when Kitson was persuaded to make the move to the Britannia Stadium but Pulis has hinted at further big-name arrivals as he seeks to add genuine Premier League quality to his side.
"The most important thing is that we pick the right ones," said Pulis. "We have a great team spirit and a bond here as a group. The senior players showed that all last season and we have to make sure we bring the right type in.
"Dave (Kitson) is a very hard-working type of lad who doesn't mind putting a shift in.
"We need those kind of players, but players who have got maybe a little bit more ability than we have.
"I am hoping that now we have started with one, we can get moving.
"We need one or two players with experience of playing at that level. We need a bit more quality all over the pitch and that is what we will try to do. I have spoken to Peter (Coates) about it and told him which way we want to go. He has been very good."
Kitson turned down offers from other Premier League clubs to join Stoke and he believes his decision will prove justified if Pulis can land the other players on his wishlist for the summer.
"If the manager can get the players he is talking about bringing in then it will be fantastic," he told BBC Radio Stoke. "We have to use being an unknown quantity to our advantage."
"It was no secret that other clubs were in for me," he added. "But I came to Stoke and Tony made it clear that I was his number one target and he was going to do everything he could to get me."
Meanwhile Pulis has reiterated that it was the club - and not Scott Carson - that pulled out of a deal to sign the England goalkeeper last week.
Carson held talks with City before travelling to West Brom the day after, and he was set a deadline of Thursday on making a decision by the Potters. The 22-year-old continued to stall, though, so Pulis withdrew his interest to move for Sunderland's Fulop instead.
"We didn't really miss out on it," said Pulis. "We said we didn't want to be in a position where we were being used. We wanted the kid to make a decision and we gave him time.
"Obviously he wanted to speak to other people and see what else was out there. I wish him all the best, when I met him he seemed a nice kid."
