Southend boss Steve Tilson is targeting "at least another four signings" after his side slipped to a 2-0 defeat against Braintree Town.Goals from Mark Jones and Dave Bryant handed the Blue Square South side a shock win on Saturday and left Tilson reeling.
"It wasn't good enough and I won't stand for that," Tilson told the club's official website.
"Pre-season is about fitness but I want to see effort being put in no matter who we play and what I witnessed wasn't good enough.
"We have about 13 first-team players and it is plainly obvious that we need at least another four signings. Not only to boost numbers but also to keep the others on their toes."
Meanwhile, Shrimpers goalkeeper Ian Joyce has failed to make the American squad for the upcoming Olympics in Beijing.
