Sir Alex Ferguson has told Cristiano Ronaldo that joining Real Madrid would be "the worst thing he could do".
The Manchester United manager feels the 23-year-old winger needs to stay at Old Trafford if he is to grow as a player.
However, Ronaldo has refused to commit himself to the club and Real Madrid continue to court him, even though they were reported to FIFA by United.
Ferguson remains clearly unhappy about the situation and for the second time on the South African tour found himself fielding questions about a player who scored 42 goals last season.
He said: "I have a responsibility for all my players and their futures are a big concern for a coach.
"If you were asking advice and it was your son, you'd give him the best advice possible on his career.
"I honestly believe that could be the worst thing he could do; going to Real Madrid.
"He's 23 years old and he's at a fantastic football club. It's the best for him."
Ronaldo signed a long-term deal last season in which United won the Champions League and retained their Premier League title.
He is currently sidelined for three months after an ankle operation following the European Championships.
Ferguson reiterated that he expects Ronaldo to play a massive role again next season.
He said: "The future is he signed a five-year contract last year and he has four years left.
"That's definite. I know that, I've seen his signature.
"Young lads can be twisted by the talk of money and the moves that are happening all the time in modern-day football.
"After the final in Moscow he was the happiest boy in the world. I think he knows genuinely where the best club is to be and that's Manchester United."

RONALDO is 23 yrs old but he is behaving like a 3 yrs old. Who was he when he first came to United(5 yurs ago). Without the surpport given by Sir Alex and the MU Team, Do you think he will be a star today?????? To what I see he is nothing but a heartless, greedy($$$$$) and very stupid person. Go to Marid and within a year he will be no one.
Undoubtably anyone who think Real Madrid are a better and bigger club than Man Utd do not understand football. Madrid are a long way short of our standards and even with Ronaldo will not catch us. If they were a truely big club they would pay the 200 million plus Sneidjer plus Robinho and then have value for money. They have not bought Ronaldo because they are not a big enough club to be able to afford him. Sneidjer and Robinho are not good enough to get in our first team but they would make good cover for injuries or when players are rested. Madrid would struggle to finish in the top four in the premiership but that's no disgrace because it is the best league in the world. The only teams to knock out English teams in the Champions League were other English teams. Dream on Madrid, Ronaldo is going nowhere.
Hmmmm, Real Madrid are the best in the world, eh? I presume they won the Champions League this year then? No? Then they must have been unlucky in the final... what, they weren't in the final? Oh, it must have been a controversial decision that knocked them out of the semi-finals... Wait a minute, they weren't even in the semi finals?.... Strange that.....
Also, what the hell has debt got to do with it? We have always signed big players, a long time before the glazer's ever came anywhere near us. Veron, Ferdinand, Rooney.... £90m and we're still going strong. We do have unlimited financial clout, and assuming your a Liverpool fan (you sound the type) - significantly more than you do!!!!!
God there are some clueless muppets on these comments boards. Real - 'bigger club''better football''bigger crowds'!!!!! When? When they play Barca? Old Trafford is sold out every week, I've seen the Bernabeu so empty it was like they were playing behind closed doors. What good football did they play? They won a two horse race La Liga by playing boring football. How have they done in Europe recently? More history? When Franco BOUGHT them cups you mean? Don't make me laugh, you are all jealous of United, the DOUBLE PREMIERSHIP AND EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS. Your teams are @#$%, so you snipe at ours for doing well. UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED YOU FALL
Monaldo United would no longer win the league if he was transferred. That's why Ferguson wins the league as he appears to have unlimited financial clout, despite the fact that they are 600 million in debt.
He has absolutely no 'fatherly' advice -he is just anxious to prevent him joining a bigger club.
The only thing that real madrid knows how to do is to demolish talent. Ronaldo will b one of many. Man U is the best place for a star like Ronaldo to grow.
Real Madrid won five of their European Cups up to 1960 when it was a simple knockout competition and few other clubs contesting it. The 1955 tournament didn't even feature the best club from each country. Furthermore, United were decimated by the Munich air crash in 1958 and they could have surely challenged RM for a European title in 58, 59 or 60. In the modern era, RM have won it 3 times to United's 2, which hardly makes United 'Second division'!! As for Ronaldo getting 'more trophies' at RM...do you mean like Mr Beckham did?
Real won it quite a few times than munes and have a bag full more history...You were only born in 58!! Your basically a sympathy vote!!! Were Real are class....Wake up and read the stats!!! You are second devision on the world stage!!!
and where was real during the champions league final?? oh yes there were sitting at home WATCHING the be club win....
Real WAS a superior team a few years ago - now they are old and slow... ronaldo should stay at MANU - get more experience and see where it takes him.
Real Madrid is defo a step up....Bigger crowds...More trophies ...Bigger stadium....play better football....Better players and the sun shines!! Unlike WANKCHESTER!!!!!!!!!
i hope he goes, madrid play better football and are a bigger club.
my nephew will get his jersey when he goes :-p
