Lord Shanakill is likely to bypass Thursday's Tyros Stakes at Leopardstown, with a trip to Glorious Goodwood now firmly on the agenda.
An impressive winner of a York maiden on his penultimate start, the juvenile ran a mighty race to finish third behind 2000 Guineas favourite Art Connoisseur in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot last time.
Trainer Karl Burke believes his colt has improved again since that effort and is eyeing a tilt at next week's Veuve Clicquot Vintage Stakes.
"He is a doubtful runner at Leopardstown and we are now looking at the Vintage at Goodwood," said the North Yorkshire handler.
"He has been in great form since Ascot and seems to have really strengthened up."
Burke was delighted with Lord Shanakill's Ascot efforts, but believes he may have finished even closer had they not made so much use of him.
"We went to Ascot thinking we had a great chance and he has run a great race, but we possibly did a bit too much with him as it is a difficult track for a two-year-old to make all on," he
continued.
"He was up in the van most of the way and was just cut down in the last furlong by a very useful horse.
"He was just outstayed by Jim Bolger's horse (Intense Focus) and I think if we had ridden him more conservatively, he would have been a good second."
