Arsene Wenger has warned he is not prepared to break Arsenal's wage structure to satisfy Emmanuel Adebayor's demands.
Adebayor is reportedly seeking a lucrative new contract with the Gunners in order to stay at Emirates Stadium next season.
He has been linked with both AC Milan and Barcelona, and is due to return for pre-season training on Monday.
Gunners boss Wenger is confident he will keep hold of the Togo striker, however he insists he will not be held to ransom.
"I've not met many people who do not believe they have a case to improve their contract," said Wenger in The Sun.
"I fight to get the players the maximum wages, but you have to respect that we have a wage structure.
"I want to keep him and let's see.
"Adebayor is under contract. He is an Arsenal player and I am very confident that he will start the new season with us."

Adebayor should go if he wants even though as an Arsenal fan it would be painful to see him go. Apart from being a vital element for the team at the moment, I think the boy is still work in progress when it comes to his football career and there is no better manager in professional football circles at the moment to help him with that than the Arsenal boss.
Wenger, please sell Ade and buy Huntelaar. This guy is a goal machine. What are you waiting for. Don't tell me you regret not buying this and that player when the transfer window goes off.
As a matter of fact, adebayor wrecked arsenal last season!A butterfly that thinks himself a bird. He is a disaster, he can go to hell.
Pirazzo@Naija
I think that if Adebayor leaves Arsenal, arsenal should buy djibril cisse because cisse is just 2 years older than adebayor, and he is a natural finisher
aresnal to buy in more players
aresnal to buy in more players
really don't know what to say , but arsenal in buy more players
greeeeed i lv arsenal but let him go he is loosing fans so ade stay or sink
wenger,it seems like you dont have other things to do than talking about ade every min

deejay you're an A.HOLE wether or not these players get more money has got nothing to do with how they perform on the pitch. If Ade gets 120K and has a @#$% season who's the fool - Arsene or Ade? If he scores 30 a season like Henry for 4 years then maybe think about it but not after 1 decent season. Get like 'Tigger and Pooh' people and "Think, Think, Think", Some people just blabber on and on and on..........
sell the greedy git quick b4 they all find out he is a one season wonder
Sometimes I am amazed with several football critickers. Ade is a very good player but might find it difficult to replicate the form of last season in another club.
Good business will be selling him for Eto'o. Eto'o remains the best striker in Barcelona's legendary and has the best goals record per game for the past 3 yrs. The reason Guadiola does not want him is EGO. Please sell Ade and buy Eto'o. That is good business.
I'm over it now - don't care. Stay or go - don't care. Whether we pay big enough wages or not - doesn't matter. We pay what we pay. Take it or leave it. Just hurry and do one or the other. I am totally sick of hearing about it. I am sure the players are sick of it and it will have a negative effect on the dressing room. I tell you one thing you need to win titles having played competitive football for 30 years and that is TEAM UNITY. There isn't much evidence of that when bullsh.t stories like this drag on and on. Let those who WANT TO PLAY FOR ARSENAL get on with their planning for the season ahead.
common guys....adebayor deserves some good money.....rooney don't play anything still earn more than him....he deserves something better not £30 000 a week....arsenal need to wake up n start paying well....look at their match against barnet i nearly had heart problem.....if want to win any throphy now u need two good teams because of injury.....ADEBAYOR I SUPPORT U
Great Arsenal fan. Some players are idiots they don't learn from previous players who though they were Arsenal and bigger than the team. Ade MISSES 5 TO 10 CLEAR CHANCES BEFORE SCORING ONE. who needs him he is a Wally....he should have been on 40 to 50 goals by the end of the season but only on 30. sell him!
I am an Arsenal fan.
Henry Thiery is not good, sell him.
Flamini is bad sell him.
Hleb is an idiot, sell him, so you end up selling most of your good players and have a not so good season!
No wonder the club is always loosing steam, mid-way!
Every good club that wants to be consistent must be ready to pay the players what their contemporaries get elsewhere, in other to keep them. As Man-U, Real Madrid, A.C Milan,, Chelsea,e.t.c
Arsenal makes a lot of money (from trading off its good players) but Man-U an Chelsea share the titles!!
Deejay.
What most players do not realise until they leave teams like Arsenal and Man Utd are what great managers Wenger and Ferguson are. Their style of play and strategic deployment of players in the field of play make average players like Adebayor believe they are the finished article until they move elsewhere and get exposed for what they really are! Adebayor was on the bench in AC Monaco because he was not putting away the very few chances the French style of football created. Adebayor will find there will be even lesser scoring chances when in Italy. The fans will not put up with that. The big clubs will not have the patience as they are not "nurturers" of talent or potential - they want the finished product; delivering the goods from Day 1. Like Anelka and all the other players that have passed through this great Manager, the club will realise maximum return for the unfinished product!. The timing is always right for their departure and so is the price! Bye Bye Adebayor
GO TO HELL ADEBAYOUR
