Premier League - Zenit claim Spurs Arshavin bid

Zenit St Petersburg claim to have received contact from Tottenham regarding Andrei Arshavin, but the playmaker's price tag has reportedly put them off.

Arshavin starred for Russia as they marched to the semi-finals of Euro 2008 and has told Zenit he wants to leave the club this summer.

The 28-year-old has stated his preferred destination would be Barcelona, but his club claim Spurs have made the first move, although no fee has yet been agreed. The Russians value their star man at £21.5 million.

Zenit official Konstantin Sarsaniya told the Russian press: "With Tottenham we have contacts.

"This English club is really interested in acquiring Andrei but, as I understand, 27 million euros (£21.5 million) is too high a price for them.

"For Spurs it is unacceptable. Tottenham are ready to pay in the region of 20 million euros (£15.9 million) for Arshavin."

  1. I am from Russia. AA is not a midfielder, he is second striker with great abilities for pass. He can play also in the wing in the 4-3-3. He is amazing player. I watch every week his games with Zenit and he is the best player in Russia now. And the league is strong here, CSKA in 2005 and Zenit this year took UEFA CUP. People here ask where he was 5 years before, Its not that he came from nowhere, he always was class player, but the scouts didn't take seriously russian players then.

  4. perfect_shy the reason why abramovich doesn't sign him is because he isn't good enough for the chelsea squad.

    do u expect him to compete with, essien, kalou, lampard, balack, deco, mikel, malouda, phillips (about to leave) and maybe robinho and kaka? he would never start a game!!!!!!

Sooner no club will be interested in him cos of the price tag placed on him by zenith...If barca got Hleb for wat they did sure they will not be willing to break the vaults cos of a 27yr old...is somone at zenith listening? spurs wait for a call from em..smtn might happen..else just move on and allow him stay put at zenith...Ejike

  14. I'm a big fan of the Spurs. I'm from Croatia, donaldelaney900 I think you have an extremely good opinion of Modric. My 2 most favorite players are Modric and Arshavin. So... I want Andrei to move to Spurs. I think they'll have the £21.5 million for Andrei because they'll sell Keane and Berbatov. My point: Juande Ramos, BUY ANDREI!!

  15. It's all very well having Arshavin, but at the moment I think Spurs have too many midfielders.

    Surely, with Keane and Berbatov set to go sooner or later, they should be looking at spending the remaining funds on strikers. I can understand signing David Bentley because he should be an England regular, but I can't see Darren Bent leading the line on his own.
