Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has revealed he is still in the market to strengthen his squad before the close of the transfer window.Carlos Cuellar became Villa's seventh signing of the summer last week following the acquisitions of Curtis Davies, Steve Sidwell, Luke Young, Nicky Shorey, Brad Friedel and Brad Guzan.
O'Neill remains keen to further bolster his squad for the 2008/09 campaign, and has hinted he may look to secure 'three' more additions.
"We have got just less than two weeks, but I am hopeful we can sign some players. We are still actively trying to get some people in," O'Neill said in the Daily Express.
"I have the support from the chairman (Randy Lerner), who has shown his intentions and done exactly what he said he would in supporting the team.
"We might get another three players in and we might be stricken with the same situation as West Ham this time last year.
"We might not be able to cope, but you have a better chance if you have the people in."

o niell is as bad as other managers tapping up players and then moans when it happens to him i hope barry goes american brummies alton vanilla what a load of @#$% useless wanking footballers @#$% knobheads wait till young and agbonlahor go to bigger clubs
Martin O'Neill is doing a fantastic job building up Villa (although I'm not convinced about the possible signing of Milner, he's over rated in my opinion). All this talk of 5th place is crazy, Third is a good possibility, are Liverpool & Arsenal's players really that much better than Villa's? O'Neill has the touch of Brian Clough about him for sure, and who would have predicted Forest's success after just squeezing into the old 1st Division? Good teamwork can outdo Millions spent on transfers, teams can only have 11 players on the field and it's all about how those players gel.
So it was still 7 in 14 then?
well he did score 7 goals but only one in a league game, where as the others were in the copa del rey which is like the f.a or league cup of spain.
Then again I think I got that info of yahoo, so who knows
7 goals in 14 games methinks.
c'mon u villa. however i'm not particularly sure with who he has been linked with lately except for milner. i can't see him getting either santa cruz or joe cole. as i think they would rather go to a bigger club liek arsenal or man utd. and who wud wana leave chelsea for villa when they play regular team football for chelsea?? i would like milner at villa as he had a great personal season at villa in what appeared to be a disaster season for o'leary.some one to keep routledge on his toes is what we need, and another target man striker as carew very rarely lasts a whole season. i don't liek the look of that zigic, one goal in 14 league games for valencia. dusn't convince me
I am not Villa fan
But O'Neill is one of few mangers I respect from my heart.
No offence but who writes the articles for yahoo? They always contain factual errors. Yes Curtis Davies was signed but he has been with the squad for a year. I'm pretty sure you meant to say Carlos Cuellar.
You gotta take your hat off to Martin and randy lerner...no arguing and the chairman sticking to his words about money and letting Martin o neill get on with it.Good on you.5TH place is a very real possibilty...god luck Villa
