Marseille striker Djibril Cisse is on the verge of completing his switch to Sunderland.
The Ligue 1 club confirmed on Wednesday that they had reached an "agreement in principle" for Cisse to join the Black Cats on a season-long loan deal.
The France international is now undergoing a medical at the Stadium of Light and looks poised to seal his return to the Premier League after previously spending three years at Liverpool.
"They might be foreign but it's important to bring in players who know the Premier League," manager Roy Keane said in the Daily Star.
"We didn't use the loan deal too much last year but this time we have been looking at that".
