Michael Johnson has reportedly re-opened talks with Manchester City over a new deal.
The England Under-21 international rejected a new contract offer earlier this month as talks between his representatives and the club reached stalemate.
Talks, though, have now started again and City boss Mark Hughes is hopeful that they can tie Johnson down to a new lucrative long-term contract, skysports.com understands.
Arsenal, Liverpool Aston Villa and Everton have all been tracking the 20-year-old this summer and news of the failed talks had put them on alert.
But now City hope to persuade the midfielder to sign and put an end to any speculation surrounding his long-term future.

What is a stable club nowadays?
Man United - the most debt ridden club in Europe?
Arsenal - who have to sell £20million of players every year?
Chelsea - owned by a Russian thief and would collapse without him?
Newcastle? Everton? the list goes on. There's trouble at every PL club.
If he wants a stable club then that puts Everton out of the running!
Johnson is exactly the kind of player City must keep if they're to make any progress this season and beyond but with the turmoil and chaos behind the scenes (again!) it wouldn't surprise me if he was tempted to move to a more stable club.
