The Irc Drivers' Title Fight Far From Decided

Mon, 21 Sep 17:38:19 2009

With Intercontinental Rally Challenge rounds in Spain and Scotland remaining on the calendar, the drivers' championship has been whittled down to two candidates as Peugeot UK's Kris Meeke leads the Skoda team's Jan Kopecky by a single and fragile point.

Of the championship's 11 rallies, (the Japanese round having been cancelled), only the seven best results count in awarding the drivers' title. Meeke and Kopecky have both scored points on six rounds so far.

The manufacturers' crown was decided at Spain's Rally Principe de Asturias when Peugeot took in enough points to guarantee that the Skoda operation cannot catch up.

However nothing has been settled yet regarding the two-wheel-drive category: Denis Millet's Peugeot leads Manuel Villa's Fiat by five points, and the French carmaker's advantage on the Italian marque now measures only 20 points.
